BadFlash... this question is for you.
BIOS chip SST 29EE020

BadFlash:

I need to find out if the SST 29EE020 EPROM that you use is reprogrammable. I have tried to flash an update to it, and now it doesn't respond to anything. I tried to reflash it again using an EPROM programmer, but the machine was unable to erase the info on the chip.

So, do I pretty much have a junk chip now? Please let me know what I can do. Do you provide a warranty on your chips? hehe...

Thanks.

If you got it in backwards even once, it is dead. You can send it to me with return postage and I'll check it, reprogram it if it can be reprogrammed. If it is zapped I'll cut you a deal on a replacement. Your programmer may not know how to shoot the chip. What have you got it set for?

The programmer allows me to choose the chip or it can auto-detect the chip in the socket. I selected the SST 29EE020 as the chip. After it loaded the image, it didn't ask to erase the chip. It was really strange. Instead, it just went ahead and reprogrammed the chip.

I'll send the chip back to you for you to look at. Can you send me the address to send it back to at joe_friendly (@) hotmail (.) com?

Thanks.

29EE020 chips do not require erasure before programming.

See http://www.badflash.com/address.html for my address.

Here's another question for you, Jack. Will you be offering a BIOS chip which enables cdrom booting? I'm looking forward to one!!!

If someone comes up with one that is ready for prime time, sure. I tried the beta that Wild_pencil posted, but found it needed a little tweeking. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it, but I didn't like messing with the menu on every boot.

Anyone have something they want to try all you need to do is send me a chip and a file. We'll work something out.
