Since I first hacked my V2, badflash chip, win98se.......whenever I dis-connected from the AC, upon re-connecting to the AC the power lite would come on....nothing else. I had to hold the power button down for eight seconds or so, to get it to go off. Everything else worked ok. Here's how I fixed that behaviour by accident:

I've been trying different things/settings to get the USB working better. After reading some of the stuff on this website: http://www.usbman.com/Guides/VIA%20Tips%20and%20Tricks.htm#Top I installed the VIA USB filter driver.....I had never done this before because VIA says it's for Win95 only. Apparently it's not so. After a successful reboot, I rebooted again, got into the BIOS settings and made the following changes: disabled write pipeline cache, disabled system BIOS cachable. I haven't checked USB performance yet.......but by accident I guess, the power botton problem is now fixed. Whether this was caused by the USB filter driver or the setting changes, I don't know. It is worth some investigation however. I wonder if a thread should be started for USB problems/VIA related stuff? I've been using the 4-in-1 driver 4.25a.

To be honist i'v had some problems like that while i was installing my NEW cpu. I'm under he impression its got to do something with a bios resadent thing. some kind of apm control which is not letting go. But after a few secussful boots into windows and shutting off it went away.

chances are the bios just has some kind of problems left which realy need to be worked out.

also has any one found a way to clear the cmos??? if we coul clera the CMOS this would or could posobly help a lot. or at least might open some new fixes to the system?
