LRP on iOpener
how do I get Linux Router Project working on iOpener

I bought the iOpener last March and have hacked/whacked it to my hearts content... But, I have never been able to use it for what I originally intended: a gateway/router/web server.

I have done some research into LRP (Linux Router Project) http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/ and it is a VERY promising solution to my needs. It is small, portable, modifiable. I do not profess to be anything other than a linux newbie, so please be kind. I mess around with this stuff because its fun!

My questions: None of the disk images for LRP have USB support built-in... Has anyone sucessfully running LRP on their iOpener? Does anyone know how usb support can be inserted into the LRP kernel?

I just thought I would mention this. I have been using linux router project on a Websurfers Disk on Chip for about 6 months now. The machine is my gateway for my cable modem. I am using a PCI and an ISA network card. I haven't seen anyone with USB support compiled into a kernel for LRP. I believe those of us that run LRP with 16 MB of space are few and far between. Most people run from a floppy. It took me 2 days just to get the Materhorn LRP distro compiled with disk on chip support and that was with instructions. Granted I am a relative newbie to linux also. Since I started, I have added a dynamic IP update module, Secure shell and even ran a webserver from the DOC for a while. It is really nice to have 16 MB at your disposal.

You might want to look at the jailbait project. I believe they have a USB compiled kernel that works on the DOC. All you would have to add would be IP masquerade support and port forwarding, if it is not already there. Then just lock down the distro to make it secure.

My opinion would be to save your IO for something more fun like an mp3 jukebox for car or home. I'm also preparing mine for use as a GPS system for the car. The screen makes it really nice for this. As for my router, once I had secure shell running remote admin was a snap.
