Hello,
I had just received my usb soundcard and was teasting my i-opener playing mp3s through my home theatre system. It sounded GREAT! So I went to move my i-opener on the desk back a little. Keep in mind i had an external power supply wiht a 3.5 inch hd connected to my i-opener. The damn thing frooze. Windows was frozen. The power button wouldn't work at all. So I pulled the plug and turned it back on. Well lucky me, nothing came on the screen. I tried turning it off, but the power button woulnd't work. So I have to pull the dang plug for it to work. I have tried removing the mobo battery to see if it would reset the settings. That didn't work. Tried removing the ram, still didn' work. I tried the reset button. Still no good. So getting desperate I replaced the hacked bios with the original. Still didn't work. So I am at a loss for words and Ideas. Cane someone please help me? I just got this thing complete and running well and it jacks up.

When I turn on the i-opener, the lagana fan spins. The power light comes on. Thats it. I have 128 megs of ram in there too. Its a v5 wiht the stock 266 rise. Please if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it!!

IT WILL turn off if you hold the power button for 4-8 seconds. As for the system I'd say unplug all extra things and try turning it on, if stil nothing then try checking all your SOLDER points. make shure you dont have a WIRE WHICH has sliped and decided to take a WALK across the board. If this is not the CASE I'd try reseating every thing you can. If that doesnt work then your BIOS is prob DEAD. and needs to be badflashed.

You are in good company. I think alot of us have had a similar problem (check out ckbone's "fixed by accident" just down the thread. I've seen the same problem with my v4 when I changed my ram, and just reseating the ram helped, making certain that it seats all the way down on the board. My v1 was a total nightmare when I added my usb NIC card. It hung constantly. The power light and fan would come on, but nothing else. I would just keep trying everything that you are already doing until it booted. Finally, I noticed that my video and usb were sharing IRQ11 rather than 15. I got them back to 15 by trying the 'unshare IRQ15 trick' awhile back. Since then, no problems at all. I would just keep at it and hope that one of the boot attempts works. Otherwise, as mp3boombox says, you'll have to try a new bios.

There is an Old Post somewhere, It suggest removing the battery for 10 minutes or longer.
Or after removing the battery, short the connections together with something.
Or Hold in The Reset Button For a Few seconds.

Then in BIOS First "Restore Defaults" (VIA Recommends this)
If You Didn't mess with the sandisk,
you should be able to Boot to the I-Opener Demo with the original BIOS in.
You should unplug anything you can that You Added (Hard Drive)

I wouldn't have messed with the RAM, But now that You Did,
I would focus my efforts on it & the BIOS chip, If things are still as You Last Reported.
Black Screen but Power Light Comes on.

Okay, I did everything you guys suggested. I am pretty sure everything in the i-opener is seated correctly. I have worked and built computers for about 5 years now so I don't think that is the problem. I unplugged the fan. Now when you turn it on, you can't even tell its on except for the green light....
Man, I really don't know what would cause this problem. I mean, I had done sooo much to this thing with out a problem. Then, I just move it back while its running and it screws up. Good thing I wasn't using it in a car like I planned huh? Heh. Anyone have another suggestion? OR, would anyone be willing to look at it for me.I will ship it. I dunno what else to do.

The fact that you tried the original bios with a no-go sounds really bad. I missed that you had said that. I assume that that there is no detectable harddrive activity? You didn't alter the voltage on the chip? I could send you a WinChip if you want to try a new CPU, but it sounds like you fried it. You didn't accidently pull the wires from the screen?I have several IO's if you want to send it to me I could try different components. japegg@hotmail.com to try things offline.

I assume at this point you have unplugged EVERYTHING (that you added) just to see if the BIOS will boot.

I don't know if this will help but there is also a reset switch just above the parallel port.

Shaxs,
Would it be possible that your i-Opener received a large zap from static electricity? It is winter time and in my area I've unwittingly generated some pretty good static charges to the point of I can hear it and sometimes it actually hurts a bit.
Of course I take ESD precautions when I have something electronic open and working on it.
Sometimes ESD damaged part may not fail until a later time.

Your motherboard isn't passing Post. The fact that the fan spins simply signifies that you power supply is working...you motherboard, howver is not. I would pull the CPU and try turning it on....do you get any beep codes? Try turning it on without the memory installed (but with the CPU installed)...do you get beep codes? If you do, look them up. If you don't start looking for another motherboard.

Dang, really wish I would have pulled the peakers out of my i-op. I was attempting to wire in rca jacks and well, it didnt work. So I have no speakers to listen to beep codes heh.... great. Anyone want to let me borrow one?

Hey, I had what sounds like the same problem when I first switched my BIOS chip. I read through your thread and tried some of the ideas then I had a guy at work solder all the pins to the socket to make sure I was getting good contact. Now it works. Hope it helps.

For what it's worth: I've had this exact behavior after installing Tenemax fans. This has happened both on new fan installs, and after I've moved a machine. Removing the fan, removing the cpu, and then reinstalling both fixes the flaky connection.
