The LED draws very low current, so just about any wire will do. I use scap wire from junked equipment all the time. Never hurts to do a little recycling. As for copper versus aluminum, again it shouldn't matter too much. I find that copper solders a little easier, but aluminum isn't that bad. One thing that makes it easier is to put solder on the end of the wire first, then touch the wire to where you want to solder it and heat it up.

My past experiences note that aluminum requires a specialized flux.
You are better off using standard insulated stranded wire.
Go take apart an old clock radio or something like that and you should have more than you need....
I have a part time computer parts salvage hobby and run across tons of stuff...I resell some of what I find and that pays for most of the needed parts that I don't find.
My lastest big find MAY provide me with an extra grand or two for my next project...

Thanks for the tips. I went dumpster diving today. The major find was a 6.8 gig Maxtor HD in a WD 20 gig box in a dumpster behind Gateway Country store. Works perfectly. Obviously it was from a HD upgrade on a rich teenager's computer. Saw all homework papers on the Maxtor. This kid goes to a private school here. His sister's resume is also on it. It has Win98 and all the normal stuff. No smoking gun or porn. :(
