After reading several postings on this board
I have still not opened my i-opener. Several people recomened a T-8 TORX tool. I tried the T-8, it was to small and the T-9 was to big. Did Netpliance change the fastner on the I-Opener 2001. I bought mine in Jan 2001 from the Home Shopping Network. Here is a
picture of the fastner

You need a Torx *Security* T-8, which has a small hole in the center that accomodates the pin at the center of the head of the fastener. Alternatively, you can break the pin off with a 2.0 mm optical flat-bladed screwdriver, and then use a regular Torx T-8.

The screws are not ordinary Torx, they are Tamper Proof Torx with a pin in the middle which requires a tool with a hollow tipped bit. These screws are also reffered to as security screws.

Forget the proper bit and use a small slot jewelers screwdriver.

I got a security T-8 from the snap on man. Saw the truck in from of a car parts place and got it for $8. This was a bit that goes in my battery powered screwdriver. Make sure you get the extra long one. The regular length won't reach down in the hole.

Funny, when I received my IO from HSN, it still had the old regular torx screws. I just used a flat blade jewlers screw driver from "Le Shack du radio".

Another possibility if you are really careful: a 5/64" bit will allow
you to drill out the security pin on the Torx screw while leaving the
screw sufficiently intact to get out with the T-8 screwdriver.

smallparts (www. <you guessed it> .com) is a great source for 2.5mm screws
and all of those other tiny parts you desire. The catalog index isn't too
great, though -- go to machine screws and start paging forward. I think
the metric machine screws are around page 161.

For those in the Seattle area Radar Electric has the 2.5mm phillips "dome" head screws with attached washer. These work great if you loose a few during the mod. I've got thick carpet and a few have found a permanent home there along with a couple other smd's and etc...
They are upstairs in the surplus excess area. Got a small bag of about 100 for less than $3 bucks on the weekend. They seem to give better deals on weekends.

I have an i-opener 2001 and I just stuck a tiny screwdriver and jammed it into a space in the head of the screw. Came out easily.
