q16 resistor mod = bad solution to heat problem?

I have used the q16 resistor mod to the q16 chip but it doesnt seem to help. The resistor gets hot and so does q16. I thought the heat was going to be removed from the q16 chip and placed on the resistor. My tops out at 72c after a game of starcraft. Now isnt that hot? My cpu remains at 53c. SO why is the mobo still getting hot? Did i place the resistor on the worng lead of q16. I put it on what seems to be lead 3 counting the pins from left to right, i put it on the third one and placed the resistor between the RF cover and the mem socket. Is that right? What should the temp read? Also, now that ive done the resistor mod, the prog rain, a softwhare cooler, doesnt work. Should this also happen after applying the resistor mod? I didnt notice any performance loss while playing the game and it never froze, but im concerned about blowing it up. what is the best thing to do??
