k6-II+ and overclocking

Gang,
I've just installed a k6-II+ 450 and am using software to run at 300 MHz. I am using a Tennmax fan for cooling. Am I at risk of overheating anything at this speed? Could I go up to 333 MHz without any other cooling method? Thanks.

Without the cooling resitor mod you ARE at risk. I killed a V5 at only 300Mhz that way.

Does anyone know what an acceptable max system temperature is for the iopener components? Is 134 F to high? Thanks.

Ragnar:

Using RAIN with my AMD k6-II+ lowers the temp 15-20+ deg F. Give that a shot.

Ragnar,

BadFlash has words of wisdom, put in the resistor (or the PowerTrends convertor module hack). I tried a little experiment without the resistor, dropped a K6-III+/450 in my V5, without even upping the clock speed from 200MHz Q16 got too hot to touch within minutes. I put in the resistor with a small fan to cool it and Q16, no heat problem any longer running the K6 at high clock speeds. I'm waiting on my sample from Power Trends to take it to the next level, gotta check http://www.overclockers.com to see just how fast this CPU can crank safely....

Does anyone know if MBProbe reports the T accurately for the K6II+ witout entering offsets?

Gang,
I've decided to go with Jack's resistor mods, but I think I will use one of his 5v fans for cooling Q16. Until I get them, were does one find "Rain"?. 200 mhz was ok, 300 mhz is a joy, will 450 be estatic? Thanks.

450 is GREAT but not all IO's are stable there. I run mine at 400. The onboard cache runs at CPU speed, so the higher clock rates are really impressive. More so with the K6III+.

I run my io at 500mhz got the resister installed and a few cooling scheams to keep the q16 cool and the cpu cool. I can play almost any quick time movie flawlessely, 550mhz plays them totaly flawlessly. 600mhz should be a dream come true for the iopeners.

the best example is the final fantasy movie in quicktime format. i forget where you can get it but if you dont have enuff power it skips and chokes baddly.

If i turn off the vmem it is a BREESE playing but with vmem on is where it takes more CPU power. ?? dont know why but thats the way it is. i beleive its soemthing to do with the SPEED of the hard drive. and input/outout and all this stuff that the cpu has to do is just to much.
