Okay, so I was reading this story posted on slashdot talking about things to do with DSL modems, and I got to thinking. Is there any way to network 2 machines using 2 DSL modems (sans router)? Is there any way to make two DSL modems talk to each other? This would help me out bigtime since I have 4 DSL modems lying around and no USB nic for my I-opener. (by the way, DSL bridges would probably be a better term than modem )

AFAIK, the 'other end' of the dsl line has a different piece of equipment. The DLSAM implements the host side of g.lite (or whatever protocol your modem uses) while the modem implements the client side. If I remember correctly, the host side provides line voltage and filtering, while the client provides the clock and deals with all timing issues.
you could conceivably replace the software on the modem and make it act as a USB to ethernet type device if it has both a USB port and an ethernet port. you could also replace the software and use the telephone port for communications, but you'd need to supply line voltage from somewhere.

Thanks, I figured as much...Im using a speed touch USB to get stuff off my server, Its not too bad...Although I wish I could forego the net connection and go directly to the PC without resorting to a USB ethernet thingy.
