TRENDware USB Ethernet adapter and Linux
Looking for help getting this to work with Linux...

I am waiting for a 44pin to 40pin adapter to arrive from Badflash.com so that I can re-install Windows. In the mean time, while I am waiting, have been playing around with JailBait Linux. Prior to my wiping Windows from my HD, I downloaded a couple images of JailBait Linux and Dolly, so I can flash and try it out.

The flashing to the SanDisk works flawlessly, and a simple BIOS setting change gets it to boot without any problems...except one: My TRENDware USB 10/100 Ethernet adapter is not recognized by Jailbait Linux. I tried a couple different things without success, and eventually, just tried plugging it in while the initial configuration script was running (you know, when it prompts you to create a username and supply root passwords, etc.) Anyway, when I plug it in, it says that I plugged in a USB device that it doesn't recognize. Maybe I have to wait 'til it's completely configured and then try to plug it in? The adapter is a TRENDware USB 10/100 Ethernet adapter, and uses a Pegasus chip.

I'll try contacting TRENDware, but if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

One other newbie question: Let's say I set up the initial configuration to not do networking. I forgot what is the command to later invoke network configuration (after write-enabling the SanDisk). Wny clues or is it strictly a manual editing process?

Thanks!!!

The pegasus driver doesn't have the ID for your trendware adapter.. do you have any way to get a file into your IO? If you can locate the vendorID and modelID, I could recompile the pegasus driver for you.

OK, stupid question time... Can I assume that the "vendorID" and "modelID" are obtained from the manufacturer? or is this something that displays in an error message or can be probed by some program?

Thanks!

you can see it in windows.. :) though that doesn't do you any good.. you can also look in the inf file that comes with the driver.

in Linux, you can (should be able to) look in /proc or /proc/bus, and try and find the file that matches your USB, it should have something like unknown device vendor id= device id = etc..
