Win98SE and the CATC Netmate USB Ethernet adapter

Has anyone had any experience with Win98SE and the CATC Netmate USB Ethernet adapter? Win98SE runs fine, but when I do anything network-related, it BSODs on me with a VxD error. Sometimes I'll be able to load a few web pages, other times it crashes on me immediately. I've done a reinstall of Win98SE, but I get the same problem again. And yes, I've installed the VIA 4-in-1 drivers and the USB Filter driver.

Any ideas? Should I just get the SMC USB adapter that I've read about? Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and one more thing... the VIA USB Filter driver seems to install successfully, but I can't find the VIAUSB.SYS file that comes with the driver anywhere in my C:\WINDOWS tree. Can someone with the Filter driver and a working USB Ethernet adapter verify for me that VIAUSB.SYS isn't in their \WINDOWS subtree?

It sort of works if I boot Windows without the USB Ethernet plugged in, then plug it in after it boots. I still get blue screens if I use the network for too long, though (like when I tried to upgrade to IE5.02).

Can anyone please, please, please tell me how to manually install the VIA USB Filter driver? I have no idea how VIAUSB.SYS fits in the scheme of things, since the install program won't work properly... :(
