does this look familiar, can we use the drivers for it? The only thing different is, it looks like it uses an access point that coordinates the network. Check it out. I think acer is also putting out a new 11mbps wirless network setup. whats the deal, can we hack it?

You are right, it does look like the acer warplink. Too bad they are not usb to usb, you have to buy their access point for 325 big ones. I was hoping to find more stable drivers than what acer has, but there are none on their site for the usb wireless.

No need to buy an access point; these use the 802.11b standard and can be used in "ad hoc" mode, just like any other 802.11b wireless card.

If you do want to get an access point, just pick up the Linksys WAP11 or similiar for under $200, or get a 802.11b access point/4-port switch/broadband router for a little over $200.

can we run our acer warplink usb adapters with the 11mbit drivers? THese two devices look identical on the outside, i wonder what changes, if any have been made to the internals. Maybe it would require a simple mod, the the promis controller on some mombos being modded into a raid controller with one resistor. What about the drivers for the acer 11mbit usb wireless adapters?

In a word, no. No way Acer would dump their Warplink product for so cheap (two for $29.88 at Office Depot) if they themselves could resell them for ten times the price ($150/ea for 802.11b).

I popped open a Warplink unit when I had mine, don't remember anything remarkable in there. The plastic case is simply being reused on their new line.

have you popped open there new line? have you compared drivers, software, hardware, rom data? Or are you just talking? You shoulndt say stuff like that, it discourages discoveries.

You're absolutely right. Don't want to discourage discovery. If someone can get Warplink adapters to work on 802.11b (heck, even 802.11), I'll eat my hat.

Unfortunately I sold off my Warplink stuff, but didn't see any of the same components as in my D-Link USB 802.11b adapter.
