MSCONFIG is a very useful program in Win98/ME. Too bad it isn't included in Win2000. Well...it's back in Windows XP. You can actually take that program from XP, put it in Win2000....it works. Get it here:

It is in your head. It can't! DirectX isn't a video driver. Nor does have anything to do with the video card. It is simple a conversion technoligy between programs and a standard directx interface on the card/video card driver. Same way windows will always have a default video card driver regardless if the card is supported or not.
I'am not sure but directx used to have updated drivers for the cards that had video drivers that didn't have directx support. They were included in the installation exe. This was circa 1996 on windows 95. When I had a diamond ARK based video card with a huge 2mb on the card (boaught in december 1995).
