IO processor speed?
Cannot install ME, processor not > 150Mhz?

I thought the processor was a 180/200Mhz unit. Does anyone know why ME is telling me it's not even 150Mhz? Is there anything I can do except upgrade the processor or go to 98?

What are You Saying ???
Where, How, is WinMe Telling You, What Speed ???
If this is True, You have a Hardware Problem, & just changing the CPU isn't going to Help !

I would check Switch 1 & Switch 2 settings (these aren't My Photos !)

What does Your BIOS say Your Speed is during BootUp

Most I-Openers are 3 X 66 = 200

I'll check your information but ME is telling me now that it cannot be installed (I copied the directory over on my drive from another PC with all the files/drivers, etc.). The command prompt is working perfectly. ME checks the disks and moves to the 'copying files' section and then hangs because it says my processor is not >= 150Mhz? I just got the unit so I'll check into it. Thanks for any help.

I can't tell what my BIOS speed is during boot up because I haven't found the info to remove the iOpener graphic from the BIOS yet.

The box was running Win98 when I got it but it was REALLY slow and flaky so I thought I'd just reinstall...

right after the Lights (CapsLock) Flash on a regular Desktop Keyboard, Tap the <TAB> Key.
or just keep Tapping the <TAB> key during Bootup till the I-Opener Splash Screen drops to Text
use the <PAUSE> key to Freeze Display, any key to Resume.

It never says. This is what I get:

Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
Copyright (C) 1984-99, Award Software, Inc.

(IPC_TRI) EVALUAION ROM - NOT FOR SALE

Award Plug and Play BIOS Extensioin v1.0A
Copyright (C) 1999, Award Software, Inc.
Detecting IDE Primary Master ... IBM-DBCA-204860
Detecting IDE Primary Slave ... SunDisk SDTB-128

Starting Windows 95...

Press DEL to enter SETUP
10/01/1999-VP4-686-IPC_VIAC-00

---

One thing I did notice when I got into the BIOS was that the processor cache was off and so was some of the other write cacheing. I'll try that, it's possible that ME benchmarks it somehow and that the processor couldn't pass the test without the cache. Thanks for the help...

PS:

PC-CONFING tells me:

CPU: IDT C6/MMX, V86 Mode, 196.85Mhz

You said on startup you get a "starting Win95" message. I'm guessing there is something about your current OS install that your ME disk doesn't like (and it was probably hosed in the first place if it was 'flaky'). Is your ME disk a "full install" or is it expecting Win9x to be installed first ie. it's an upgrade disk?

I'm not familiar w/ME but if you have the "full install" version of this you might do best to re-format your HD and start over. While you're at it, if you don't have PartitionMagic, you might want to partition your HD to have a backup partition to keep a copy of your DriveC.

BTW I loaded Win98 on my IO (same processor as yours) and didn't have to dink with the BIOS settings. Maybe you should also reset these to 'factory', or at least find ckbone's BIOS pics and verify they are all 'normal' for your various BIOS screens.

It does appear to me that your hardware is passing POST and thus is probably just fine. Look instead at your install procedure.

I like this, Hardware ok. Looks like Software.
You Need to do a CLEAN INSTALL.

(You could try Deleting everything in CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/DEVICE MANAGER &
then REFRESH could Find Everything ! I have had Some Luck with this Procedure,
But I have Never had this problem.)

Or,
From this Web Site: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winme_install.asp

/nm UNDOCUMENTED: Allows you to install Windows Me on a system that falls below the
minimum CPU requirement, such as a Pentium 100. Not recommended, as Microsoft's
minimum requirements are already too low for this OS.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I took a look at the BIOS pics and found that there were several settings turned off, especially in the cache area. I think that made ME think it was a slower processor. As for the clean install. It is a clean install, I just used a Win95 boot disk to format the drive and get the ME install directory copied to the hard drive. It's installing as I type this so hopefully I've tamed the little beast for now. For the most part has your IO been pretty stable or somewhat flaky? Thanks.

Hi,
If this helps any... my daughter has been running W98SE, then WME (with dual boot to W2K for my wife to check email and yahoo clubs) from our I-Opener on the kitchen table for about a year plus... it's suffered much (the falls, water painted backgrounds (yes my 4YO decided to apply watercolor to the LCD once upon a when and it shorted while wet but restarted with some flickering at first then no problem after a half hour, I-Openers can survive much)).

The stock heatsink, cpu, only 128MB of memory and a 6GB hard drive were added... works great (for surfing and kids games... so so on some... now trying Diablo-II... well ok so it didin't really work too well, but it runs ME, 98SE, W2K and whatever we toss at it... just slowly.
