Thinking about buying a Version 1 iOpener.....A few questions

Hello. I am new on the iOpener scene and I don't really know all that much about it although I have been reading up on lots of info as of late. Anyways, I was thinking of buying a V1 iOpener (unhacked) with a 2 GB hdd (laptop size, not installed) for 140 bux. First of all, does this sound like an alright deal? In terms of modding, the ide cable making and connecting/mounting the 2.5 inch hdd shouldn't be a problem because I am used to working with electronics/computers, but do I need to make any modifications to the bios in order to have it boot from the hdd? IE: to get it working with win98 SE, I will need a hard drive, an IDE cable, perhaps a heatsink/fan, anything else? If I do need a new bios, where can I get one and for how much, and is there a way to flash the bios if needed? Thanks for all the help guys, I am hoping this will be a nice project for the car :)

So would the version one for 140 bux with a 2 GB hdd not hooked up or the version three for 120 bux be a better deal? Wouldn't there be less messing around with the version one? But also it would be less upgradable yes?

A V3 is definitely easier to hack. I have hacked a V1 with Las_Vegas' method and it is not for the faint hearted. The trade off is this V1, harder to change the voltage but has no glue on the bios. On the V3 there may be glue, you won't know until you've checked.

I too am wondering about the same things as mhiscott posed in his original post. We simply want to know if you can run Win98 on an IO by:
1) adding a HDD alone (and use twisted IDE cable)
2) changing BIOS chip
3) changing keyboard to a PS2

Let's ignore the CPU upgrading for now. Can someone tell us if just 1 and 2 are required, or are all 3 required?

I have an early version IO and use the original keyboard with it, along with a USB mouse. The only thing I needed a standard keyboard for was for setting the CMOS settings for the drive, boot sequence, etc. As I understand it, the new BIOS chip that Badflash is offering no longer needs the "esc" key to get into the CMOS screen. That was the only shortfall of the original keyboard; other than that, it works just fine.
