I just got a GPS for Xmas and I'm EAGER to attempt to make this I-Opener into a GPS system. Does anyone have or have software to recommend to use with the I-Opener..or GPS software in general? I downloaded the software that is for the Lowrance GPS's, and it sucks. It doesn't map or have any killer features..maps or anything...hell the OS on the GPS is better than that computer software?
Also, is anyone selling a cigarette lighter power unit for the I-Opener?

Thanks again,

Jason

Streetfinder is supposed to be good. $45 though. Sometimes you can find one version old copies in the jewelcase software area of places like Frys or BestBuy.

I actually got the boxed version of Door-to-door 2000 Deluxe, mainly because it was $5 at Frys and supported GPS. It has maps and works fine. They were closing them out so they may be gone. If you want the latest maps, get the new StreetFinder or something. If you just want to have fun and have slightly old maps, Door-to-door is fine.

Note: For Door-to-Door, if you want to go CD-less (of course) you have to load the whole map CD on the HD and then edit the file path in the registry, not just the one in the ini file.

Also, take your GPS on a airplane sometime. It's fun to see 40000 ft and 550 mph. Get a window seat. I had better luck on the side of the plane facing the most south (makes sense since sats are over the equador(sp). I ran Door-to-Door on a notebook so I had the map too.

Good luck.

I have used delorme stret atlas and rand mcnally's software. The rand mcnally was more accurate for location of stores and gas stations, but I liked the features of delormes software better. I just used my IO GPS setup for a trip to New Orleans over the holidays. I forgot how great it works.

I did find that rand mcnally's search function works much quicker than delormes. Which is great when you want to find a gas station or fast food on the fly. They both give the option of finding all restaurants within a user set radius of you. I'm hoping the newest version of delormes software is better. Voice directions and voice recognition are really cool.

As for a cigarette lighter adapter, radio shack was selling a laptop supply that was about $50. Has adjustable voltage from about 12V to 22V I think. The IO just needs 19V at about 1.8A. CompUSA and a few other electronics stores sell car laptop adapters for about $80.

Has anyone had problems with Delorme's latest GPS software? I put TopoUSA 3.0 on my IOpener and I get no detail in the maps that are displayed. I presume its one of two problems:
1. Memory (I have 64 meg)
2. Display Driver

Does Delorme's latest software work for anyone here with 64 meg or less?
