After reading hundreds of threads on this very subject, I have one simple question -- Can the K6-2+ 450 be used as an initial drop-in replacement for the Rise 266 in my V4, or is adjusting the Vcore required?
Hmmm....I count two questions. Yeah it'll drop right in, but you need to change the core voltage to 2.0v. These RISE chips run at 2.8v, you'll fry the AMD chip at that voltage.
Here's the good news...if you have a V4b or V5, you have a little set of dip switches above the CPU that allows you to do just that. If not, you'll need to do some serious hacking to use the AMD k62+450.
Nope, I have a set of dip switches on SW3, right around the SO-DIMM. I guess that would give me one of the complicated models... Exactly what does the hack involve, ckbone?
