Secure (tamper proof) Torx T-8
I found a nice little online store selling the secure Torx T-8 key needed to open I-opener

I found this site while poking around ebay. They sell a 6 piece set of secure Torx keys that includes the T-8 needed for the I-opener. The set goes for $7.95 plus s/h ($2.99 uninsured, 3.99 insured, 5.99 UPS ground) Here's the description from their page:

6pc Precision Tamper Resistant Star Key Set. Includes T-4, T-5, T-6, T-7, T-8, and T-9. These are about 2.75" in length.

These should do the trick, I'll confirm it for sure when they arrive. I posted this because I've heard on this board that some people have payed up to $20 for a similar, though somewhat larger, set. Anyhow, I'll probably have them by next weekend. check back then.

I don't think they'll work. The driver that the bits snap into, is just to wide to go into the hole. I bought a single driver from Mac Tools (T8 security). It works perfectly.

ckbone is right.

A regular small jewelers flat tip screwdriver works fine. Used it on many i-Openers. Carefully wedge it between center pin and hex points of TRT fastener.

This method has been covered numerous times in the past.

Actually these are not bits they are the 'L' shaped "key drivers" sort of like those small allen wrenches. As for the jewelers screwdriver trick that's all well and good but I've been warned against it and I'd rather not risk stripping a tamper proof screw like that.

What kind of warning?

I've mod'ed several IOs, including a couple of V3s. One I used a small
drill bit to drill out the pins, then a T8 to remove the screws. On
the other, I used a jeweler's screwdriver. Both worked without problems.

Replacement screws: 2.5x8MM metrics from http://www.smallparts.com -- the
pan-head philips head screws. Or maybe it was the 12MM ones.. there's
reasonable flexibility in the sockets.

Back again. I've confirmed that these do indeed work. As for the warnings I recieved, I was told that the pin could be mangled or bent, preventing the proper driver from fitting any more. Again, there are plenty of tricks other people use, but I'ma bit of a cautios fellow. Anyways Dr_steve, if you could confirm which screws the Iop uses it would be apreciated. I may need longer ones for a project of mine. and in case anyone happens by, I'm still looking for quake II performance on an unmodified Iop w/ 64meg, as well as a k6-2 450Mhz mod with 64meg. If anyone can tell me it would be great. Yes, I know the screen sucks, It'll be attached to a monitor.

No no no. I used a small jewlers screwdriver and with very little effort was able to just snap off the security pin. After the pin was gone I was able to use the same screwdriver to turn the screw by inserting it in one of the two grooves in the torx design. No need for extra tools. I-Openers are inexpensive toys and should be kept this way. No need to spend extra money. I currently have three and have never had to get anything special to make them work. Happy Hacking!!!!!
