Almost done -- now power goes away when i plug in processor

In a nutshell - I plug in the processor and power goes away. It sucks as i thought i was pretty much done.

Months ago everything seemed to work -- i've got a V3 with the DC to DC mod implemented (minus the diode so you have to unplug it to stop the processor from heating up). Was booting Win98. Life was fine. So I pulled everything down tonight to install the diode. Did the diode install and power it up. I checked power w/o the processor to ensure that the DC to DC mod is working and yes, all measures fine. I did notice though that the front lighted switch seems to have no effect -- i.e. it's "ON" and pushing it has no affect. I then plug in the processor and the green light flashes and then nothing. I measure power at the input to Q16 adn read zero volts. I thought that there could be a loading issue so i unplugged the disk drive but this had no affect. I have not messed wiht the current limiting resistor yet -- that is yet to come.

Any ideas? Any other places i should measure?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

oh yea, one more thing. When i pull the processor back out everything "works" fine again. Processor is one of the 333Mhz K6 2.2V Core. And i undid the diode fix and it had no affect.

It's hard to tell what all you did....but I-Openers will sometimes start when power is applied. That is, the green power lite will come on. However, the I-Opener will not boot untill you hold the front switch down till the lite goes off. Then start it again. All mine act this way from time to time.

I have a V1 that I put a DC:DC converter in with the K62+ and I had a similar problem. I had to decrease a resistor in the 3.3 supply section. I don't remember the resistor but it was a large 1W surface SMT part less than 1 ohm. I paralled it with a .5 Ohm part ....I think..... I think this resistor is a current sense resistor for the 3.3 switcher. I read about this somewhere in this forum. When I have time I will try to find the reference to this problem. Sorry I cannot remember the exact fix. Kinda busy these days. MM

Thanks, I thought about that and actually that was the next thing that i was going to do -- you're right it's the current sense resistor. But to test that theory, i removed the disk drive -- which should reduce the drain on the power supply -- and saw no change. Any other ideas?

I believe most / all drives run off of +5V. The current sense resistor I am talking about is for the 3.3 side of the switcher. I also unplugged my drive before I realized that it would not make any difference. I had the same type of problem you had until I decreased the sense resistor. MM

Great. OK, i'll try it -- hopefully tonight. Thanks.

Welp, that worked -- soldiered the extra resistor in parallel w/R302 (if memory servers me right) and she booted.

Thanks for the help!
