Stripped MB Scans - Not Quite Schematics
The Closest Thing to a Schematic so far

Finatronics has been kind enough to post the scans of the stripped mother board for your viewing pleasure.

Out Takes - Oops

The finial stripping of the board was done in my oven, I heated it to 400 deg and then whacked it. The chips and solder went everywhere. A few re-located themselves and had to be removed manually. After sanding off all the white pads I noticed one such chip (I believe it is an upside down resister) still attached to the board. Just for giggles, can you find it?

I just got here, and I need to read some more, but you sound like somebody I want to hang out with. Whacking a board in your oven! I thought I was the only one that did that stuff.
That's great,

Welcome to the board .... or should I say welcome back. I think you are going to find there is some real talent behind some of these user names. Virtually everything that I learned about stripping this MB (among other things) came from experiences of others on this board. I get the distinct feeling that people here like hearing from the more agressive types. So hang around for a while, I suspect there is more to come.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm still trying to figure out where I was, and where I need to go from here. Reading lots of old posts. But a lot of that gets kind of confusing. For one, it's old, how old? Then it may reference something else that's no longer there, and information gets updated. So there's a lot to read, sort and absorb.
But what I am reading is impressive. Some real brain power out there, I like it!

Just For Giggles - Update

Two people have successfully identified the location of the stray resistor.

Just wondering,

What version of iopener is that on the link for the scans of the motherboard? I was wondering because I have a lot of elements that are very different on mine.

I believe it is a V5.

I tried doing this to a Dell Intel CA810E board that I was pissed at because Intel processor locked it (BIOS refueses to do anything except 66mhz celerons, even though the chipset can tualatins at 133mhz (810E)). So I decided to throw it in the oven like you guys did, and after slaming it on the floor, almmost everything came off ecept alot of the multi leg (8) decoupling capacitors around the CPU. HEating it against and slamming didn't work, so this is how I improved on your idea, I took 3 paper towels (bounty, thicker, less lily to burn me, use 6 if some other brand), and heated the board, then scrunched up the papaer towels and wiped off the board and all those tiny capcitors came off.

BUt htat smeared solder everywhere so I took a pot scouring pad and some Ajax and washed the board with it. Now it looks nice enough to hang on the wall. I hate that Dell and Intel forbid upgradeability. Plus I am more of a AMD guy myself (nothing beats a $38 1.4ghz duron that OCes to 2.4ghz).

I'm glad to see another adventuresome sole. I've done this procedure a couple times now and like you I also have turned to wipping the board off. However, I use a rolled up magazine. I roll it from the spine so all the page edges end up grabbing all the little parts. It works pretty good, but like you noticed it tends to smear the solder.
