how to "unlock" brand new i-opener?

First of all, I realize this is mainly a linux board, but I am running out of places to turn. Does anyone out there know the answer to this dilemma?

I bought an i-opener on e-bay thinking I could reprogram the unit with a new ISP phone number. The problem is that it is brand new, and an unused i-opener trys to call into Netpliance's server to register and get a local ISP phone number to use thereafter. The unit will not let me into the options until this happens and "unlocks" the unit. Of course, that phone number for Netpliance is no longer in service.

How can I either
(1) make the i-opener think it has registered and let me into the options so I can give it a number to dial for an ISP.

(2) get the unit registered.

I'm hoping one of the hackers out there has a clever idea so I can use the unit on the Net. Any ideas???
