128MB SODIMM Problem

New Message128MB SODIMM Problem (modified 0 times) no_one

I just purchased a 128MB PC133 SODIMM for use in my I-opener. Unfortunately it only shows up as 64MB. It has 4 memory chips on one side and none on the other so they are 32MB each. Is this too much for the I-opener to detect? Any way around it? Anyone want to trade this new one for one that will work? Thanks.

As far as I know, the only 128MB Sodimms that will work, are double-sided & have 16 square chips in total, 8 per side.
If the chips aren't the square ones, but more rectangular, it may not work without producing HD errors & Windows BSOD's.
Supposedly, Circuit City has some "Centon" brand 128MB Sodimms that will work, but look before buying.

Correction: the 16 chip/8 per side is how the 256MB Sodimm's must be configured, in order to work in an IOpener.

I just had the same problem. From what I've read elsewhere on the board, *any* 128MB SODIMM will work (as opposed to the 256MB SODIMM's as valir mentioned above).

I just installed a 128MB (16Mx64) SODIMM from Memorypro in my i-o and it only recognizes 64MB. There are 4 chips on the front and none on the back.

Are there indeed special guidlines for even 128MB SODIMMs? Being a cheap SOB I thought that this $19 with free shipping stick would work, but apparently not...

Thanks for the offer, valir, but I already ordered a new SODIMM last night. I found the one post (can't find it again, so I don't remember who posted it) about *all* SODIMM's needing to have chips no larger than 128 megabits (i.e. 4 chips for 64MB, 8 chips for 128MB, 16 chips for 256MB...)

Kludgemeister (now if my sample RS232 chips will only arrive, I'll be done...)

Kludge:

If you are having difficulty obtaining your FREE samples, remember that there are two sources for the samples included with the Dual Serial board. I would make a request to each source. Jack at BADFLASH.com also has a good price on the CPG's as well.

Best regards,

Not knowing how long a memory Maxim has (I already got samples from them the last time) I requested samples from Sipex this time. I checked Badflash's site, but I don't see where he has the chips listed (but I see he has your board up again, with a picture!)
