my first i-opener hack

I just won an i-opener on ebay, and I've been going through the forums off and on for a couple of days now trying to gather all the information I need to hack my i-opener when I get it.

Some background info... My friend is going to give me his one way direcpc satellite system (he got dsl in his area and is selling his 2-way dish). I already have a linux server set up as an internet router and file server, but unfortunately, from what I understand, there is no direcpc software for linux. So I needed something really small to be a dedicated direcpc router, and the i-opener seems like it might work.

As far as I know, I'll be getting a new unit. I've read some posts about people who would like a copy of the "virgin" software that is on the unit. So if anyone wants a copy, let me know and post some instructions or a link to instructions on how to get a copy off of the unit. I have no interest in the i-opener software. I want to load win2k or xp on it.

From the posts I've read, I think I need the following to hack my i-opener. Correct me if I go wrong somewhere
* get the imod2 from badflash
* get a laptop HD 12.5mm or thinner
* get an adapter to attach laptop HD to a regular computer to copy files
* maybe do something with the bios. Haven't received unit yet, so I'm not sure which bios it has

I think that's the minimum. I've read some of the WinXP posts which say that people had to upgrade their i-openers to 64mb ram in order to get XP to install. Has anyone tried installing XP on the HD on a regular computer and then installing the HD in the i-opener unit? I don't think I came across this scenario. Does it work? If it is too much of a hassle, I'll probably just go with win2k. I haven't read much about installing win2k on the i-opener on these forums, but I'm assuming that it works well.

Also, I think I read somewhere that the i-opener is picky about which laptop HDs it uses. Can someone tell me which HDs are safe to use with the i-opener?

Any other items that you think I need for this hack? Also, I'll need to connect two USB devices to the i-opener--a USB ethernet adapter and the USB directpc adapter. Do USB hubs work fine with this unit?

I just want to get the i-opener running win2k/xp with minimum hassle. I don't care if it is slow. It will only do one thing--be a direcpc router.

Thanks

Don't think WinXP will install, unless the CPU is running at 225 MHz minimum. Either run Win2K, or else plan on upgrading to a faster CPU. For the hard drive, stay with the slimmer 9.5 mm ones. Preferably not an older & slower drive, but a more up to date drive, for better system/bios compatability. And you'll need a CPU fan, since removing the original large aluminum heatsink is required, to fit in the HD. USB hub: haven't had much luck doing that. A second USB port can be soldered in, (if you can find the parts) however. You'll see, when you pop the lid off the IOpener.
