I was working to put this together as cheaply as possible, but 256 is tempting. If you can't find it, BestBuy has a special on PNY 128 sodimms for $28 before a $15 MIR. Works find in my v3b.

Actually, they also have PNY 256 for $70 before $20 MIR. Same format (4 per side).

The circuitCity Centon 256 modules look like they have 8. Brand/Model: MEI 256MBLT133
http://www.circuitcity.com/IMAGE/product/hires/mei/PC.MEI.256MBLT133.CN.JPG
They seem to have two varieties, one model MEI256MBLT133 and the other MEI256MBLT133ONLY Don't know what/if the difference is.

Update: Well, the difference is about $15, so I went with the cheapest possible. Circuit City Centon 256mb laptop pc133 is $54 after MIR, has 16 chips, fits with plenty of clearance, and WORKS. Bios recognizes it just fine, though it mumbles something about CAS2, and continues to load. PNY also has an equivalent, but there's no (CircuitCity) rebate on it at the moment.

Now to return the other and do the rebate crap again..

Newegg is great, but I think you may have problems. The only Kingston sodimm I found had 4 chips per side, so the IO may only see 128mb.

Good luck, thankfully Newegg's return/rma people are nice.

Hey, so I was wondering, if you need 8 per side... a 512MB wouldn't work would it because it has twice the density per chip when compared to the 8 per side 256 right? So you'd need a chip with 16 per side (doesn't exist... I think...) for 512 to *theoretically* work?

I had a 64 MB chip and it totally screwed with the video. Put the original 32 back in and no video problems. The 64 MB chip only had 4 chips per side.
