Blank Screen and Harddrive issues
My problems with drives and a blank screen!

I have a v1 Iopener with no mods expect the imod2.
I have installed win98 on a laptop toshiba drive and it's ready to be installed.
I got the badflash cable, hooked it up right (this is the second cable i got, so i know it's good).

red facing cpu, on middle connector to IO.
red facing jumpers on the HD.

If i turn on my IO without the drive pluuged in, it boots fine, i get the welcome screen etc.
If i plug in the drive, it doesn't do anything, just a black screen.

I've played with different bios settings (c only, enable ide, etc), and nothing seems to work. I've moved the cable all around and still nothing.

Anyone had this happen? Any Ideas

P.S. Jack@Badflash has been very helpful in my problems. thanks for the quick responses always!

eriku:

Are you sure you are using the two middle rows of holes on the double connector end of the hd cable to plug into the i-o? Not the second connector but the second row of holes on the first connector and the first row of holes on the second connector.

Do you have access to another harddrive to try?

Have fun,

Don't believe lightning can't strike twice. I think you've been hit. We had a slip in our quality control and about 20 improperly made cables got through. Your situation looks to be a classic case of backward cable syndrome.

Try this:
Forget about the stripe. Plug the cable into the middle two rows of the double connectors with the cable running toward the middle of the motherboard. The side toward the cpu is pin 1. Follow that side to the hard drive. Plug that into the pin 1 side of the hard drive- toward the gap in the pins. If that doesn't work, e-mail me off line & I'll drop you another cable.

Think I fixed it. I had some wiring done for audio outs and an ethernet port...I think sloppyness led to the demise of my booting. After careful soldering, I am now the proud owner of a working iopener which boots into windows 98.

Thanks goes to badflash for the help. He's like the one stop iopener answer machine.

I thought it was a v1 with no mods except the imod2?
