The backlight is part of the screen. You need to replace the entire thing. The V4 takes a Hitachi screen, all the others use the Sharpe sscreen. I only stock the Hitachi's.

bagger:

http://www.gatewayelex.com (800-669-5810) has cold cathode fluorescent tubes in various lengths and colors. (they call them clip board illuminators?!!!)

i do not know if they show on the web site, but the store in San Diego has them in stock.

the i-o needs one with 8" illumination length, 8.75" max length with one wire 11" and the other wire 2.75".

you may need to change the connector with the connector in the i-o,

you may need to extend the wires by splicing in the i-o wires.

just watch how the i-o display comes apart so you can get it all back together.

have fun,

Badflash:

if someone is very careful, the display can be disassembled and the cold cathode tube replaced.

there are some bent metal tabs around the edges and screws at the corners, but as long as the glass is not separated from the front frame, it can be done.

it may cost less to replace the whole display, but when i did mine, there were no replacement displays available.

it is an advernture,

Wow thanks for the info.

02U2:

I did take the lcd apart, and I can see the tube is burned. But I broke the tube while taking it out.
