Newer I-Openers use different, faster CPU?
Found strange non-Winchip CPU in my V5 IOpener

When I received my iopener in the mail the other day, from a recent trade, I immediately opened it up, removed the RF backing and heatsink. Expecting a Winchip 200 (?) mhz CPU, I see a "Rise mp6 266mhz" CPU. I have a V5 iopener. Anyone else have these as well, or is this CPU a Winchip CPU?

Yes, the V4 and V5 use a Rise CPU. You've got a V5 if there's no Yamaha sound chip.

Hopefully it's not a big deal.. the sound drivers for the V5 are a little harder to find; whereas for the V4 and below the drivers actually come bundled with Windows.

Thanks for the info. I was talking to the person who sold me the Iopener, and they saw that I had an AMD K6-2 450MHz cpu, and they said that I want to keep it and that I could use it in my V5 IOpener. Is this true?

A stock K6 draws too much current. You want a K62P, a mobile processor.
