I have two Iopeners that I plan on hacking however the talk about the diffrent versions has me confused.
I think that I have either a V3 or a V5 but am not sure how to proceed.

Both units:
have no epoxy on the BIOS chip
have RiSE MP6 processors
are missing chip U14 (Yahama sound according to other threads?)
have U18 (Adlib sound? part no: AD1881A)
have stickers that say REV:3B with dates near 2000.08.16
has a 44 pin header
don't respond to any sequence of keys during the "iopener" boot screen (Bios splash screen?)

Am I correct in assuming that this is a V5?
Does this mean that I will need to purchase a V540a BIOS from BadFlash in order to add HD/CF/Serial/etc..
----
On a slightly related topic, I have a pair of laptop HD converters that allow a Laptop HD to be plugged into a standard IDE cable (with a power cable for supplying +5V) If I use one on the motherboard, swapping out the pin pairs (2,1 4,3 6,5 etc.. ) will I be able to use a IDE HD (with an external power supply). Will I require the Badflash BIOS to add the HD anyway?
----

Thanks for your time! I look forward to getting these projects underway!

Sounds like V5's
Yes you need a bios to use an HDD or CDrom
Any HDD or CDrom can be used with a external powersupply,Badflash has a small 5v,12v unit
that I have used with a standard IDE HDD,just be sure to get the correct pins on the motherboard header and don't short out the 5v lines
