New Earthlink Sandisk Image
IOP for its intended function

Does anyone have an Earthlink ANYISP Iopener that has service with Earthlink and is still using it in its native mode. I need to get an image that has been on the system at least as late as August 2003. I get loads of requests from people that actually use the iops as intended (imagine that), but their unit has died and they want to replace it and get the e-mail working.

I have a tech at earthlink who is willing to set up existing e-mails if I can connect to the right server. It would mean a lot to lots of people, so I'd appreciate it if someone could help me here.

Which version i-Opener did it come on? I know of a virgin V4 still sealed in it's box.

A virgin won't work, I'm afraid, but thanks. All the earthlink iops I know of are V5's.

I will shortly have my hands on a "good" earthlink unit. Eartlink says they can update the e-mail account for existing subscribers. I'll see if they can actually do it shortly.

OK, now I'm stuck. Need some help form you folks that know something about the sandisk image.

On the back of the Iopener is an ID number. This ID number is coded in some file on the sandisk. When the iop is on the net the server uses this ID for software updates and the e-mail account. I need to know how to change this ID. Searching the sandisk image for the number comes up empty. It is either compressed or encrypted. If I can find and change this I can make IOPs work in their native mode and update the e-mail to a new account.

Anyone got any ideas?

I can help out if I have the ID # and the image of the drive.

My guess is that the ID number is stored in NVRAM, and that fits in along with v5's having their bios modified. That way the ID can be stored on the device even if the sandisk goes bad. Check that out?

Did you guys ever figure out where the serial number was stored? As far as I know, the space known as nvram is actually on the Sandisk, and there aren't any other non-volatile RAM chips in the thing, except the pram of the bios. When you dolly the Sandisk with a new image, say the anyisp image, the serial number seems to change to the number of the machine from which the image came.
