Will This Cable Work?
Got it on Ebay. Will it work?

If I'm not mistaken, I should be able to use the two connectors at the short end much like the double connector cables that badflash has. Please tell me I didn't just waist the money... Here's a link to the auction.

You might make it work, but why not just get the right one from Badflash??

the price is about the same and there is no doubt that Jack's will work, I not sure that you will be able to jump the two connecters close enough without breaking the headers on either the drive or mainboard; you idea sound right at first but I am not so sure it will work. this is coming from a guy who used to make them darn things for the i-opners and GCT's. I didn't cheat and use the dual connecters, I split every other pair and twisted them then crimped on a single IDC header on the cable; sure while it took a little longer, they worked.

CCRay,

Doing it the way you describe, you'll have to figure out how to fold or stuff the extra cable between the two connectors you want to butt together.. and you'll only be able to use one IDE device on the cable.

Jack's cable allows you to connect the Hard Drive and an optional (notebook) CD-Rom. The IOpener is much easier to build up when you can install software onto your new notebook drive from bootable cds.

hmmm. Now that I think about it, I don't know why I bought it... At the time is seemed a lot cheaper. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

One more quick question: Will a 20GB HDD be supported by the BIOS? I've looked through the old posts and have seen this question asked several times, but the answer still eludes me.

Thanks again,
Ray

Sorry, make that 2 questions: Is the IMOD3 Kit available anywhere? I checked on badflash and found nada. It looked very clean and professional.

Thanks again,
Ray

P.S. I swear, I'll stop asking the stupid questions soon.

It's a pretty standard BIOS.. I've hooked up 160gig hard-drives in external enclosures with no problem.

The IMOD3 went out of production years ago, as the IOpener hacking fad faded away. In fact, pretty much all of the add-on hardware developed for the IOpener is out of production, and BadFlash is the only source with remaining inventory. My favorite is the deep back cases that Mainstreet designed -- gorgeous job, and it fits a standard notebook cdrom. In fact, my top IOpener machine now sports a DVD+/-RW in that case.

... though, I still need to spend some time on the BIOS so that I can actually boot off of it... there's a timeout problem because this drive takes too long to recognize a disc... *sigh*

Got my cable today :0) and it actually worked!! At least it wasn't a TOTAL waist of money... looks kinda funky though. It booted up with the 30 gig out of my laptop. (Hung while booting though... I guess you can't run WinXP with 32MB of RAM...)
