Guys,
I have just brought a JVC GZ-MC500AA Camcorder, it uses a 4gb Microdrive or Compact Flash type II Card for storage.
I can get an hour of constant recording on fine quality, not much. These cards are pretty expensive and twice a year i go to events that would have me wishing to recordpossibly 20hrs of video footage. One of these events is this weekend, Summer Nats. A 4 days car event held in Canberra, the largest car even it Australia. I could easily walk around 3/4 of the saturday day and night recording, say a good ten hours ! The reason i brought this camcorder is because of it shear size, ease of use and descent picture quality. So how do i keep the unit small, portable and able to record so much info ?
I have looked at the option of buying a storage tank of some sort to off load all the data, though the hassel of having to do this every hour and a ten minute loss of recording time due to transfering the data and reformatting puts me off a little.
I was thinking and couldn't see why some sort of adapter couldn't be made to plug in to the 50 pin Compact Card Slot and adapt to 44 pin IDE Drive slot. This way i could record directly to say, a 2.5" 100gb IDE Laptop Hard Drive. Now i could continuosly record video footage for 25hrs !

Q1. Can it be done or am i dreaming ?
Q2. What needs to be considered, is it as easy as pin to pin wirring and maybe extra power to the IDE Hard Drive or is there other issues to consider ?
Q3. Can anyone assist with the pin to pin arrangement ?

Anyones asistance would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Stephen

You know if you did a Google search for pinouts you might answer your own question.

Unless it specifically supports IDE drives, it probably won't work. Apparently, from posts I've encountered on other forums, consumer CF cards can operate in two modes, PCMCIA (with hotswap) and IDE (no hotswap). Most PDAs and cameras only support PCMCIA mode.
