Putting a 550MHz K6-2+ in a v1 I-Opener

I'm assuming my I-Opener is a V1 - I'm pretty sure of this, since the BIOS chip isn't epoxied and no effort was required (other than acquiring a HDD adapter from ###########) to get it to boot off a hard drive.

I'm wanting to install an AMD K6-2+ 550MHz CPU (2.0 core voltage). I've found plenty of information on modding for 2.3v, but not 2.0v. Maybe I'm an idiot and missed something, but I've been searching through this BBS for awhile now and haven't found information specifically for 2.0v. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Does anyone even post on this BBS anymore? :\

I do not recall anyone ever modding for 2.0v. From memory there was one post that included putting a trim pot in the circuit which allowed you to tune the core voltage to the desired point, but I would be hard pressed to find that post, I hope you found that post on your own as you have probably figured out by now that nobody ever really posts to this forum anymore as it is treated as reference only by most people.

Well, thanks for the response! I knew this forum was pretty dead, but I figured I might as well post anyhow. I ended up frying my V1 (shorted out the power supply circuitry) and bought a V4 on eBay, popped the BIOS out of the V1 and stuck it in the V4, and it now boots and stuff. Now I'm back on the hunt for some pages I found awhile ago about soldering on some SMT DIP switches to configure teh CPU. I installed a 500MHz AMD K6-2, and my V4 had the DIP switch necessary to set the core voltage appropriately.

I do wish more people were still interested in these little guys; it'd be nice if there were current documentation (and fewer dead links) on working with them.

Hi, I dont know if you will ever get this responce but if I can find it I have a lot of the pages downloaded/saved for the iopener. I just gave a virgin v1 iopener away to a friend because I knew I was never going to do any thing with it. the other one I have has a lot of mods on it. and the deep back metal case. Sadly life happens and my modded iopener has been sitting on a shelf for years now. I plan to use it again but I dont know when I'll get to it. Had a lot of bad luck in the past few years. no thanks to the recession as well 2k8 messed my wife and I all up.
But I also hit a life choice point and am redirecting my self on whats important. And I'm getting rid of lots and lots of stuff wife is trying to divorce me etc... So I dont know. I'll check back here some time but if you have questions I may be able to help just been a long long long time. My current project is building a pure carbon fiber media pc case and I am remoding my websurfer pro IR keyboard mod so I can use it on that computer :). will be sweet when its all said and done.
