LCD Relocated, No Contrast, Help

New MessageLCD Relocated, No Contrast, Help (modified 0 times) Tony
Ok, agianst what was recomended I had to try to relocate the LCD. I found some cable that had triple shielding with 18 twisted pair. And being as stuborn as I am, I wired up a 7 foot LCD cable. Plugged it in and turned it on it worked, but could not adjust the constrat anymore from the controls on the daughter board. So I double checked all my connections, all looked good and read good. Re-tryed, still no contrast controls. So got mad, re-wire to the orginal cable and pluged it in, still no constrat. The thing that sucks most, is the constrat seems to be turned all the way up. Anyone have any ideas?????

Tony

yeah the same thing happened to me, except i only extended one wire to see if it would have a chance at working, then plugged it in, backlight comes on but nothing else. So i put the 1 wire back the way it was.. and nothing.. i'm stumped. the wire is very thin and looks like fibre... should have just left it alone :(

This thread is very interesting especially since it poses some interesting potentials with regard to the effort to get a TFT running on the I-o. If anyone knows the answer, or has a theory I would really like to hear it.

Tony

I could be all washed up on this but since the BIOS does the screen recognition and sets all the appropriate registers accordingly, have you considered re-flashing the BIOS now that you have it back to it's original configuration?

I am in the process of installing my IO in an old laptop case and have extented
my cable 18 inches, so after reading this thread I did a quick check and my
contrast works OK. Better check your soldering tekneques. Thirty years experience
tells me that extending cables usually only affects high frequency signals and
fast timming. I used unshielded twisted pairs 28 gauge.

Finished installing IO into old 386 Dauphin laptop case. Works great. I extended LCD cable
14 inches with no loss of display or contrast functions. Only problem was with backlight.
Was very dim so with a little Goggle search found out that the high freq AC for the tube
is very low power designed for only about 4 inches. Salvaged the HF power supply from doner laptop and pumped the input voltage to ten volts, I have a nice bright display.

KneuB_2 I see no problems for you. I spliced my cable wirh an angle cut to stagger the connections and pigtailed spliced rather than butt splice. Insulated each with shrink sleeve.

Good luck all.
