Anyone intereted in selling Prefect's advanced serial mod?

New MessageAnyone intereted in selling Prefect's advanced serial mod? (modified 0 times) CoolBeans
I would be interested in buying a pre-made serial mod if anyone is so motivated.

Willing to do so? Only if adequately compensated for time and effort. Most of us here have "real" jobs that suck up 50-60 hrs/week, plus a real life. Purchasing small quantities of special electronic components, plus their shipping, then creating a PCB design, etching, and shipping that out, is all very labor-intensive. I doubt that users would be willing to spend more than $35 or so for a port, but that would barely cover the cost of purchasing the components and their shipping in a small quantity. $100 to $200 would be a more reasonable estimate for the "true" cost to hand-produce those. Would you still be interested at $150 for a prebuilt serial port?

dont you know that your not allowed to sell stuff here?

didn't you read the post by hardware1. only his/codemans stuff can be sold here. so i guess you should ask them to provide the serial hack for you.

You are missing my point: It is labor-intensive to create an "open the box and slap it in" serial port adapter, even though the component count is small. The cheaper approach, if one wants a no-solder solution, is to just buy a premade USB-to-serial adapter. Not as "elegant", but in this case simpler and easier for those who cannot solder.

When I asked the question, I wanted to know how feasable it was the make this thing for a resonable cost.

TheNewNumber2 - Thank you for answering my question.

To the person who didn't even leave an anonymous nick:
I debated answering your crude statement. While I was leaning towards ignoring you, there are too many pricks like you that should get a piece of my mind. So.... I work over 80 hourse a week as a medical student, not counting the hours I spend studying. While this is no fault of yours, I don't have the desire or time to learn how to etch a pcb for what will probably amount to a once in a lifetime use. The last thing I need when indulging myself on a small side hobby is some a**hole like you calling me "somebodys pocket bitch."

JMH3:
I'm sorry daddy.

When there is one available for sale, I have no doubt it will be listed on the iopener alt. newsgroup.

But quite frankly, I'm suprised. No calls of profiteering yet for a $35 labor intensive component? No calls to open source it and give the product away for free?

It amazes me.

Aside from making a serial port mod that you just make a whole in your case and plug it in. I also make audio adapters for the io's, which you just have to solder 4 wires. This is totaly independent of the IO speakres and vol. control. So you can turn the speaker vol OFF with the slide bar but still have audio out with no change. Inorder to change the vol on the audio out you need to use the software audio vol control. This means it doesnt go thew the preamp on the io and there for doesn't degrading your sound. Plus the little adapter has a built in buffer so this means its not going to bottem out when pluged into a LARGE sterio. This happens when you put to much of a load on the audio circut of the io. But with my audio adapter, you can plug your io into any thing and get CD quality sound. If you look around you'll find that most ALL audio out hacks for the io dont have great rattings :) but this one does!! These are $40 including shipping.
Install process is simple, solder and hot glue 4 wires in place, +5v, l/r audio, ground, drill a hole and screw the audio jack tight berinc@acadia.net

so far i'v sold about a bakers dosen of each and have YET to get a complaint
