Now the software is out, it's time to iron out the bugs and put more flesh on the bones. Any comments here are welcome.

Nick!

You are persona grata here!

Good to see you!

Somebody was complaining on the usenet group that the NowShowing list doesn't work for them. I don't reply on usenet, and his email address was bogus.

Has anybody had that problem?

My first idea is that it's a 1.3 vs. 2.0.1 issue (the NowShowing list is in 2.0.1, use the PlayStream readme to find tyStream fsid's for 1.3).

I also heard someone say that ExtractStream was crashing trying to open /dev/hdb on a 1 disk system.

I have a one disk machine and don't have that problem.

Anybody care to elaborate?

I believe that the person fixed the problem themselves

>Got it! - added the line:
>httpd.tcl > /dev/null &

>to the end of rc.sysinit and it works.
>Didn't work from a bash prompt.

Hey Nick,

I've come to join the exiled

In the process of making some mods to ExtractStream, nothing major, just an options thing. At the moment I want to be able to extract the raw stream, using the DUMP_OUT environment variable. Currently you have to set AUDIO_OUT & VIDEO_OUT to /dev/null if you don't want ExtractStream to write to the codecs or to a file. Just adding a -n (no output) switch. The only reason I want to do this is so I only have one write() instead of three, will reduce the overall syscall usage.

On a related topic, it looks like myworld doesn't always open the /dev/mpeg* devices with an exclusive lock. When I forgot to set AUDIO_OUT and VIDEO_OUT. the stream I was extracting was interspersed with live-tv with some very interesting artifacting. Strangley audio didn't appear to be affacted.

Mark.

On writing to the mpeg devices...

The PES headers aren't being sent to the devices... and that code's (-p stuff) is all screwed up.

I don't know if it's important to the devices to get those headers, but they are not standard headers, so they must mean something.

I also wonder about the utility of such a feature. I think starting and stopping MyWorld is not as trivial as it once was, and I'd much rather use the TiVo's front end to watch a show.

I just wanted to give a shout out and a big thanks to Nick. You're the one who finally pushed me over the edge into getting a TiVoNET and getting into TiVo hacking.

You've got props on my output. :)

Hi Nick,

The program does not seem to work properly under 1.3. This weekend is a bit full for me, but I will try to make the 1.3 corrections and send them back to you by Tuesday. I will try to have to set up so that it will sense which version you run with and try to adjust for it.

That would be cool to see it work under both 1.3 and 2.0.1. Thanks.
