Anyone tried to use TMPGEnc to combine the files? I keep getting "can not open or unsupported" when I try to select the video stream "program1.m2v". Ideas?

Well, he did supply the settings in the TiVo-VCD.mcf file, but it still gives that error.

Maybe it worked with an older version?
Nickhull - what version TMPGEnc did you use?

There are a few things you need to know to use tmpgenc properly. first of all, a lot of what it can do is dependent on what you have loaded on your pc. you must have codecs to properly decode the m2v stream in place before tmpgenc can work with it. I know that my machine with my vidcap cards works fine with m2v files, but the one without the normal video (output only) card does not work. You might try loading up some mpeg2 drivers.

I can't use the main page of TMPGEnc, but the Single-Multiplex option on the MPEG Tools menu will create a usable .mpg file. At the main page, I load TiVo-VCD.mcf but all my .mv2 files yield a 'can not open or unsupported' error. Any ideas?

Yep I installed power dvd and now the MPEG tools single multiplex works but the main screen on TMPGenc doesn't. I have a feeling the video streams we're creating are pretty marginal in terms of meeting the MPEG 2 specification :)

You can use the TMPGenc Mpeg Tools to multiplex and then demultiplex to get audio and video streams that work with TMPGenc. It would be nice to create a .MCF file for creating an hour long SVCD from a TiVo recording. I want to try out the two pass VBR encoding and see how that works.

I don't believe that the MPEG-2 streams are 'marginal' by any means.

Try using ligos as your driver. There are others that work too, but if you can play a video-only stream using Windows Media Player and ligos it's a really good test. For me, TMPGenc has worked 100% for streams that ligos can play.

However - work is in progress to correct a couple of bugs that can produce an invalid video stream. You may be suffering from this.

Post your results - and maybe try Extracting a different recording and see if that works.

Just thought I should mention it, Alot of TMPG questions and VCD
questions can be resolved at www.vcdhelper.com, if you haven't been
there, you should, they have ALOT of useful info on DVD player VCD
compatability, VCD, SVCD, XVCD, MiniDVD, etc.
just figured It should be noted somewhere

Try www.videohelp.com instead. The person responsible for paying the domain registration for vcdhelper.com was late with a payment one month and some porn site registered it. vcdhelp.com and dvdrhelp.com have been combined into www.videohelp.com now.
