Whaddya bet Austin C.C. gets them last , if at all.. NPLI probably thinks every single one sold here went to a linux hacker...
66 at south, 120 at north CC on back order, how many bubbas would want an 'Internet thang'...
Although on the other hand, lots of techies might be buying them for non-tech parents and siblings... Thats why I got 2.. my mom is always upset about Win95 crashing and trashing her mail list, an IO seems perfect for her, and grandma really isnt up to running a MS or Mac based PC, but the IO screen is a bit too small for her, something like webTV fits the her needs better. An IO with VGA out to a 17" monitor might work, with a keyboard with bigger keys. I could hack an IO for her... Maybe I'll try to get one at CompUSA, oops, forgot about that $500 zinger... Forget that idea...

(Hi NPLI... :)

Why didn't you say so in the first place so I could just hand you the spec instead of going through the trouble of faxing it to you?

How about hooking up?

Roastbeef - Good to hear you're from here, too. I was pretty sure, and I knew you at least lived in Texas... :^)

Friday is out for me. Since Roastbeef can't do Thursday easily, I'd propose a monday lunch (I'll probably be out of town this weekend). Jason's Deli in the Arboretum sounds fine to me... What do you guys think?

Humorous that you guys can't get together.. I betcha if CompUSA suddenly got a bunch of I-Openers, everyone would be there within the hour..

What about Saturday night.. 6th.. drink and hack?

Making it Monday means I've got an extra weekend to finish up my current hack... which I'll make an "Austin Exclusive" for at least a week before making it public. And if it works... It'll be *major* cool.

Where is Jason's in the Aboretum? Is is near the Macaroni Grill Restestaunt? Here are many stores in that area and one false turn and it is a real pain to get back to the where you need to be.

How will we recognize each other? I will be wearing a plaid shirt with a pocket protector that will have a least 15 pens in it, thick glasses with tape on the bridge, my skin will be very pale cause I never go outside ( just to eat fast food) and .....wait the Aboretum is so close to IBM and TI that everyone there will look like that!

I will just have a 44 pin IDE cable in my shirt pocket. That should do it.

Tues 11:30 Jason's.

elipsey,

From Oakhill, get to Mopac (Loop 1) north, exit 183 north. Stay on the ramp which takes you to 360/Great Hills Trails exit. The 2nd traffic light is Great Hills Trails. Turn left onto GH Trails, on the right of the 2nd traffic light on GH is the shopping center where Jason's Deli is. Look forward to seeing you all.

I ordered mine on 3/15 from CC and haven't heard a thing.

Nothing from Netpliance and nothing from CC. I was number 45 or so on the list when I ordered. Headed there tomorrow to check how far down the list I am.

If you got one, do you have any idea where you were on the list?

Yes, the lunch was good. maybe in about 2 weeks we could all do it again.

Maybe in 2 weeks we will all have our I-Os and we could compare what we have actually done instead of just talking about it.

I stopped by CUSA after the lunch and there were no I-Os available. About a week ago I asked about when some were scheduled for delivery. One of the corporate desk persons called the warehouse and they were told that the next shipment is scheduled for May 1st.

It was nice to meet all of you...we have to do it again.

I didn't think of it until I was on my way back to work. I have an IO with a questionable BIOS socket. I figured I would just replace the socket later, and I have a new socket for it. Since you are still waiting on yours to come in if you like you are welcome to this machine and you can pay me back when one of yours arrives. I'm not trying to dump broken stuff off on you. It just occurred to me that swapping the socket wouldn't be a big deal for you. I haven't done anything with it so other than the socket its completely unmodified. I have the BIOS reflashed to the 10/99 level. All I need to do is box it up again.

Send me a note if you're interested. duvell at beer dot com

Look like the IOs are starting to show up for the Austin CC back orders. I just got mine from the CC south store (Order 3/13) and a friend just got called to come get his from the CC north store. (Order 3/16)
Got the 'goo' off one, used a Pace Station hot air tool set to 500F and a dental pick, the stuff gets nice and crumbly, like cold candle wax. The Pace has a tiny 1/16" tube, very directional.

As an aside, the unit was nicely packed, looked like quality parts and construction, they used a CAS2 SO-DIMM, for example. The case was done with brass inserts on all the screws, that costs, most stuff just uses 'wood' screws or self-tapping.
