I'm also in East Lansing, Shaw Hall. Anyone find a place locally that sells PS2 Splitters?

New MessageRE:East Lansing Michigan I-hackers (modified 0 times) -pyr-
I bought a splitter at a small computer shop in traverse city, so I cant say for locally, but if you ask at a small computer store, they would likely have something like that. you could get some cheapass mice and splice.

I got my I-opener at Compusa earlier in the
week. Luck as hell, went to pre-order one
and they had just gotten some in. I still have one on pre-order from CC, but I doubt
that it'll ever come. I was able to sucessfuly flash my bios by using my Abit BH6 motherboard. Taking the epoxy off took a couple of hours unfortunately. As for supplies, I've had to order everything. Can't find any computer shop up here that has Y-Cables or 44 Pin IDE Cables. What I really
need now is a good low profile fan, anyone
have any luck finding one up here?

Hey zint im from Grand Rapids and have yet to see one come into our Compusa. Which Compusa and when did you find it? Still looking for one if anyone in Michigan has a extra Iopener to sell!?

On the 4th, I stopped by the Lansing Compusa and was able to get one.(in the Frandor shopping center) At first I called
and they said they didn't have any. So I went to preorder one, and I saw some boxes sitting in the back!! I'm not sure
if you can rely on just calling. At first, the guy went to see if they were for preorders, but luckily they had a couple extras. The good thing is, that they actually set aside the ones for people that preordered. (I guess some C-usa's aren't)

Hey yzerman:
I'm in GR and managed to pick one up from CompUSA, I went over at lunch the day after news of some stores having them was out, and managed to get it out of the back, they weren't in the inventory system or anything yet.

ouch, hope you didn't have to pay too much. At least you don't have to worry about the TOS since you bought it over
Ebay.

Yzerman:
I got it on 4/12. As was walking toward the door there was someone else leaving with one, but he looked like a non-modifier. I had just canceled my CC order a few days before that too, just down the road. I think I was #14 of 30 on the list there.

I got one from CC and one from CompUSA.
I was 2 or 3 on the list at CC, same for CompUSA.
I originally did it to make sure I got at least one, but ended up with 2. My reserved one at CompUSA was the LAST to come out of the backroom. They had sold all but the one they were holding for me. Initially they told me they had sold out. Lets say I was a little steamed till I found they were holding mine. Made my day :)

Thats cool. I didn't pay that much. Besides for the money the I-opener is a pretty cool device. I'm having a blast with mine now that I have it hacked. The only fun part was chipping out the epoxy. I still wish I could have picked one up at Compusa. Oh well. If anyone bought two or has a extra I have a friend looking for one. Let me know: yzerman@darqside.net

Chipping out the epoxy? why? Get the new
qnxflash utility. It worked great for me.
I used the method that one person outlined
of hooking two computers together directly
with a phone line. I was able to transfer
my files and flash without any problems. Saves some time, that's for sure.

Why chip the epoxy? I had done mine before the modem hack or flasher was available, and ordered a chip from badflash too, so I haven't bothered with the other. It only took about 45 minutes for me to Dremel, but the pen/cable attachment makes the small stuff much easier to do.

The reason I'm chipping epoxy is because I was stupid and didn't take the time to save and dycript the shadow file before moving the start-apps to another folder. Thus causing on reboot to come up to a root prompt. OH and I almost forgot while downloadint that neat little qnxflash util and bios I got a UPDATE ROOT PASSWORD. So now I can't login at the prompt I get upon boot up... Thus locking me out of the QNX system and thus not allowing me to flash the machine..

Oh well..

I did get the epoxy chipped out and a new bios in place. Now I'm waiting for my mod kit to show up to install my hard disk.

Thanks for the suggestion though.. I do read the forum but I got in a hurry and made a mistake. Trust me If I could have I would have done it the easy way *grin*.

BTW off topic but has anyone purchased one of those other WebSurfers from compusa yet for $49? Heck. I'm going tonight to see if I can get one from the GR store.

I read in the Websurfer forum that you couldn't get one from the East Lansing CompUSA. :(
$50 sounds like a great deal, but unfortuantely they're actually inforcing the TOS.
