IN Maryland, have two IO's.. Need to replace a BIOS socket on one. NO matter.. I only have parts for one of them.

Anyone here know of a place that can install a BIOS socket for me? :)

I'm in downtown Balto. I-O is up and running, but I'm still hacking around. I'd be up for a meet and hack. Have some spare cable and connectors, Lok, if yours doesn't show soon. You might also try the Market Pro show at Timonium Fairgrounds this weekend -- I got most of what I needed at a Market Pro last month.

I'll probably wait for the Gaithersburg computer show.

Well, NPLI said mine was *probably* shipping today. I also just rec'd my email from Tennmax saying the fan was on the way, too. Have the 3.7G HD, now just need the cable.

RE: Flashing. We need a connection at UMBC or JHU. I am sure they can do it. I'm working on finding someone, but nada so far. Perhaps, someone could ask around at the fairgrounds this weekend.

You might want to check that Mtn Rd CC. I was there Tue night. They had "the sign"!! NO IO. Now I could be wrong, sure, but they seemed pretty certain.

The Gaithrusburg CompUSA will be getting 13 in shortly. As usual, the person did not know when exactly. they tried to only let me taek oen of my pre-pays, but, I persisted.

I am sure the employess will grab some, but, the people at that store seem pretty damn dumb.

Yeah! I would love to get a cable! I am itching to get mine set up -- all the parts are lying about my living room, just ready to get crushed

I might come up for the computer show, but i don't have directions. Do you know a URL that has them (coming from 495) ???

BTW, if you still haven't got a USB ehternet adapter, check www.VA.com, they have a D-Link 650 for only $18.95!!! I am going to take back my Netgear one, so that if I screw up the adapter when installing it internally, i won't feel too bad at losing $20. Shipping is free from them too!

I'm in Laurel. I'd be interested in getting together if others are interested. I could probably provide a location. Laurel is pretty central to Balto. and DC.

To Jack Flanders;
I am in Columbia, and I would like to meet and see your hd mount. By the way, I went to the MarketPro show and I looked around but nobody I talked to knew what I was talking about when I said laptop ide. At which booth did you score ? I also have a motive for meeting, I would like to borrow a bios or flash in your board. But I would understand if you are leery, since it requires taking apart a working computer, always a risk and an inconvenience.

New MessageParts in Bal/Wash/NoVA? (modified 0 times) GMontag@dc2600.com
Does anybody know of a dirt-world store around here with decently proced parts, like 128 MEG SODIMM (we need the iMac variety, correct?), surface mount 0 ohm resistors, sm capacitors, larger capacity 2.5" IDE HDD, and other assorted pieces?

If they have prices anywhere close to online parts that is cool with me (I hate ordering stuff online, personal privacy thing, much prefer cash).

Still waiting for a NoVA store to get some of the boxes.

here's a place:
Active Electronics Sales Corp
6714 Ritchie Hwy # G Glen Burnie, MD
(410) 863-0070

It's across from the Best Buy and one block south of the big MVA HQ, in strip mall, behind Pizza Hut.

They have plenty of components on the shelf, like IC's, res's, & all the like.

No IO yet, but lookin forward to hackin'

Gave up on NPLI. Will resume project at a later date. However, I have in hand:
$27 Tennmax Lasagna fan,
$20 2.5"-->3.5" IDE adapter, and
$137 3.2G HDD. 9.5mm
$35 IMOD-2 in transit to me.
Any buyers? No profit taking here. All new, all in packaging, and all at exact cost. I live near BWI, will be in Old Town Alexandria Sat evening, travel to Towson a lot. So I'll meet you somewhere.

2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapters can be bought from Computer Renaissance
(at least the one in Alexandria/Van Dorn) for $6.99
The 2.5" HD mount I made costs 19 cents from flash aluminum sheet
at Home Depot (works perfectly).
Still unable to find a suitable 5v fan and cable. Going to the
computer show in Montgomery Co, hoping to find them there.

Just picked up my I-Opener from CC on Mountain Road, so I'm finally in the game. Haven't had a chance to check it thoroughly yet, but it seems to be a version 2 (hooray)! No security screws on this one, but I have the proper bit even if it had them. Anyone with the latest revision here, I just might be your new best friend.

I breezed through the documentation and must say that I could not find any mention of the TOS anywhere in my box, just a flyer listing the number to call to set-up my account. Box had original unbroken tape, no security screws, no mention of TOS, & gooped BIOS; damn, almost thought I had a version 1. -Spike

I live in Ellicott City MD, and haven't been involved in this kind of hardware hacking since I did TTL and CMOS kinds of things back in the stone age. I have 2 unopened iOpeners (I've been too busy to even open them yet so I don't know which version I received; ordered them from CompUSA in Columbia right after the first Slashdot story, received them about 3 - 4 weeks ago) that I bought with the goal of converting to Linux for general use and web surfing. Is anyone nearby interested in comparing notes, maybe working on this with me? Is there an iOpener hack group or eList in the Baltimore area? If so, sign me up.

My email is toucan99@rcn.com

Thanks.

For those who still want an I-Opener, Circuit City in Gaithersburgh and Frederick still have a few left. Gaithersburg has 2 (on 5/24) that are V3.5 with a box date of 4/21. Since CuntUSA is cancelling orders, you might want to hurry and snatch these up. I'm gonna press CuntUSA to fulfill their backorders, since the RiseMP6 seems pretty good, and hoping they'll be getting these. sigh
