Anyone else out there?

New MessageTucson, Az. (modified 0 times) Arvenger
Got my IO from CompUSA last Tuesday, but haven't hacked it yet.
I was the third person to special order, so I *know* others are
out there... JMH3? Sean?

Also, any locals interested in StrongArm systems?

Hehe, there's a bunch of us in town. A handful of us from work ran over to CompUSA to clean them out fast as we could and already have most of them modified. An SMT rework station makes real quick work of the epoxy (< 5 minutes).

What are you doing with the ARM boards?

Hi All!

Some friends and I are thinking about building some StrongArm
units in addition to hacking IOs, and thought we'd see if anyone
else might like to go in on it.

Me, I'm thinking about a StrongArm based MP3 player for my car.
Don't know about the others...

Well I guess I only just beat you to it. I was the second one to pick mine up. Still waiting for parts to mod mine, I waited till I got it before I ordered my parts. Has anyone else tried to make it dial up to your own ISP with the built in browser? I could not get it to take a new number for dial in. Anyway let me know if your going to have any Mod parties.

Well, I'd be rather interested in a good deal on a StrongARM board to play with and know a few others who'd like the same.

Might need to throw a mod party at my place sometime, as I've got all the good equipment to start things out. I paid extra to buy one direct in order to get a good BIOS image. I'm just asking people to kick in a little for the extra cost of shipping and service I had to pay.

What are you guys planning to do with yours? I've got
an *old* (1990) 386 laptop case I'm going to migrate to.

Anybody got their BIOS re-flashed? I've got mine de-gooed
and am expecting a 12v from BadFlash soon.

Where have you guys been getting you mod parts from?
I checked SWS for a 2.5->3.5 adapter and they wanted
$11.50 for it! I almost laughed.

BigRick
You interested in going in on an IO parts order once
we find a good source? That way we can save on shipping
since I don't think we'll find anything decent locally.
The only thing I have right now is a 6.5G 2.5" drive....

See ya!

Elliots seems to be the best place to pick up parts. I had a laptop adapter left over from a HD I bought off eBay, which was DOA (I got ripped off by some young kid whose parents helped him hide from me).

If you want to go really cheap, Elliot's has 2mm header strips, which you could solder wires onto over to a regular IDE connector.

I've been talking with Arvenger about manufacturing StrongArm boards locally.
We can cover 8 units. We also have access to the Lattice programmer needed for the FPGAs.

We should set up a "Byte To Eat" at East Coast Supersubs sometime soon.

Count me in on that "Byte to Eat". I live, and work at the U, so just about any day for lunch is fine. Or maybe we can make it a weekend lunch? School ends for me May 6.

Hey guys. Thanks for coming to the Byte to Eat. I had a blast, it was great to see the hack in motion (two people had i-openers to show off, one even worked![thanks Big Ric]). Hopefully we'll have more show up at the next one.
