If anybody wants to get together for a BIOS burning party in Denton, let me know. I am having a meeting this Saturday evening (July 15) from 6-8 PM.
Anyone interested must email me to get directions. EMail me at simmons1.maps@on.directlink.net (.maps on. is "no spam" backwards, remove it.) If you can't email me for some reason, post your email address here.
I won't be charging anything to burn the chip, but I also won't be messing with any epoxy. I have the proper PLCC tool to remove the chip, and a version one BIOS image with and without the BIOS logo. Just make sure that your I-Opener has no epoxy on the chip and that it is in working condition BEFORE you bring it up to Denton.
Tanner Electronics ( http://www.tannerelectronics.com/ ) probably still has some 2.5" IDE cables (~$5) and the extra connector (~$2) that is needed. Visit their website for a phone number and directions to the store. They also have a very nice bright orange LED (~$.50) with a resistor already soldered in place for an IDE activity indicator. The keyboard splitters that they have do NOT work, but they have a USB mouse (~$10) that works great.
The screwdriver needed to remove the base on the new machines is a #8 security Torx. One of the guys will be bringing his, but more are welcome.
