New MessageAnyone In WI have a iO already or ordered? (modified 0 times) Joe-ProCooling
Currious if anyone else in the Milwaukee area is waiting on their iO also? and what store you order it through?

Ordered on 3/16 from the CC on the east side of Madison. Obviously still no word. I honestly think we'll get screwed even more since it would seem that the east and west coast stores are getting in some. I doubt CC thinks very highly of the WI stores. ...who knows. Good luck..

Ordered on 3/17 from the Northridge (Milwaukee) store. The sales drone claimed "We have 10 on special order, but 14 are coming in tomorrow (would have been 3/18). You'd better hurry up and reserve one!"

I laughed a good laugh, but ordered one anyway. Still waiting, needless to say.

You ordered on the 24th and received it? I have yet to receive a March 22nd phone order, still 'processing'. There is something really wierd with their ordering system. My one from CC was ordered on 3/12.

Yeh got it in today, already ripped it to shreds.

Pics of it are up at the iOpenerCentral.com Forums.

I ordered it thru the NP direct, after I canceled my CC order from back on the 17th.

I ordered 2 from Southridge CC on the 16th, still nothing. If anyone is interested, I wouldn't mind getting together with other local hackers and discussing projects, when/if i get mine.

Anyone in the Milwaukee area been able to prepay at CompUSA? I tried, no go.

I didnt bother driving out to brookfield. Seems like our Midwest stores cant generate enough market interest for the Corporate buyers at CC to send some units our way. I doubt CompUSA here will get any soon either.

I have one already and am just patiently awaiting the others.

If we want to get together, we can probably get a room available in one of the libraries or meet at someone's house. My spam protect mail is zonyl@hotmail.com, there I can give you my personal email.

Ordered mine on 3/14 from east side Madison store, came in this monday. The buttheads never did call me, I called them and pestered them myself. After about 15 minutes, they said "oh yeah, yours is here". Just waiting on getting the bios done now, so if anyone in the area can help a brotha out........

Morale: call and pester them, I'm not convinced that they are calling anyone yet.

Fragzilla,

They actually came in to the east-side store on Saturday 4/8. I called Sunday morning and was told they wouldn't be seeing them for like 4 weeks. Then 2 hours later they called and told me it was in.

Have you done anything with yours yet? Want to get together on ordering mod parts or doing the mods?

email me at mikewgordon@yahoo.com

Thanks, already got the parts ordered and installed. Got the bios chip freed, just searching out someone to assist with the flashing of my bios. Seems like there is a bunch of us here in Madison, someone's gotta have a good bios! It only takes one to start the chain a rollin'........

Fragzilla,

Did you find a local source for any of your parts, or did you mail-order them?

Mikey

I bit the bullet and sent my chip to badflash..Anyways, I should get it back any day now. I'll let you guys know when I get it. I'm downtown in Madison, so pretty easy to get to if you'd like to drop over and get your chips flashed.

For what it's worth, I found out that the CompUSA in Brookfield got some IOs in earlier this week (Monday?). I had them hold two for me on Tuesday, but then I got mine in Illinois instead. I called them back and told them to go ahead and sell the two they were holding for me. That was 2 days ago, so I'm not sure what their current stock situation is.

Mikey-

I mail ordered them. Got parts from 3 different places. Incidentally, I have 6 44pin crimp headers (to add to an existing ribbon cable to do the dual header cable trick). Will trade one for a bios flash, or will sell them outright for $4 a piece (what i paid for them). I work on campus and live on the East side if that helps. I'm gonna be on vacation this coming week, but email me if you are interested in one. email godzilla@surgery.wisc.edu.

Flip- can you let us/me know when you get yours? I'm interested in getting mine flashed....

The CompUSA in brookfield had a bunch on wednesday. My boss at work and a couple of other employees had ordered some awile back and CompUSA called about one of them, but the others were sitting there too. So its worth driving there to see if your Iopener is really there or not if you ordered one. The ones that they have are modded, however, but its nothing that a exacto knife and some time wont take care of :). BTW, does anyone know were I can get a cheap 1.6 gig or so laptop drive locally? I live in Glendale.

I'm in Madison on campus (and with limited access to transportation) and looking to get my BIOS flashed. If anyone in the area is up and running and willing to flash, drop me a line at squeak@hotbot.com
I'm getting impatient waiting for my badflash chip to arrive.

I ordered mine from CC on 76th & Layton March 16th. I got the call it was in on Friday (Apr. 21st.) Payed cash, no mention of any service agreement!!

Now I need a HD cable, etc.

After reading (look at the bottom of the page for drawings):
http://mcs.uww.edu/students/mstuczynski/iopener/index2.cfm
I am thinking about just making my own cable.
I checked the prices at Jameco. The connectors #100386 are only $.79 each if you order 10 or more, and the cable #37954 is $6.75 for 10'. (The web listing for the cable says it is .050" spacing, but the lady on the phone assured me that it is really the correct spacing for this connector.)
They have a minimum order of $20 including shipping ($4 priority mail). I am thinking about ordering 10' of cable and 12 connectors (adds up to >$20). This would be enough to make 4 cables, using the technique mentioned on the web site above.

Is anyone else interested in these cables?? I would be willing to order the parts, and even build the cables.

Post a followup or e-mail if you are interested.

supereee,
I don't know what their problem is, but the old balding guy behind the counter doesn't like me very much. :) Too bad none of the cashiers were dumb enough to give me any Websurfers for $50.

New MessageWhere to buy components? (modified 0 times) Wesly
Hey,

I've seen alot of people talking about "Fry's" as a place to buy cables, HD converters and stuff. Is there a place in the Milwaukee area that is similar? I guess all I really need is the 2.5" to 3.5" HD converter to format/load the OS. But it would be nice to know of a place in the area to go to pick up stuff when you need it instead of ordering.

Thanks,

Wesly

I was watching the Ch 4 News (in Milwaukee) and they were doing one of their "call 4 action" or something like that stories. Basically, call them or e-mail them about consumer problems that you have. Does anyone think it would be worth it to bring CompUSA and their TOS scam to their attention?
