My I-Opener was knocked over and the LCD display is broken. Does anyone have any advice on repairing it? I would guess that the screens are no longer available and I noticed that the price of a new one just went to $400. I was thinking of perhaps integrating it into a monitor case and using the VGA out connector. I have a few VGA and SVGA monitors as candidates. Since breaking the LCD display may happen to others, what would be a good strategy?

The other option is to sell it for its motherboard. A number of folks have units with good displays, but damaged circuitry due to BIOS socket soldering fiascos, inadvertantly dropped paper clips, etc.
You could probably get $100-$200 if the motherboard is truly functional.

Try to get someone to part with an I-Opener that they've toasted. There has got to be plenty of people out there who tried the hack, and ended up frying something. The screen might be a bit more than a plug-in replacement; I didn't pay that much attention to it while mine was opened. It's possible you could even part out the leftover SODIMM, modem, etc and get most of your costs back. Just an idea. -Spike

You asshole. Why the hell are you posting this crap in the
"I-Opener Technical Info Reference (MODERATED) section" ????
And for the rest of you jerks. You're no better than Hoyt.
Oh yeah, as for answering your question.... ask aspguy. He's
in your league. But don't be surprised if he calls you a moron.
He gets a lot of that himself.

I would put it in a leather sack with the letters "BK" written on it and walk to the nearest Home Depot and scream the words "IT SMELLS LIKE SWISS CHEESE" over and over. Stop and leave if you see black helicopters flying around. They are part of the boatpeople.

Man. Nice to see the self apointed "thread police" are here too.
Anyway. This may help you.

under notebook parts, there is an LCD (the HP one) that's pretty similar to the one on your I-Opener, I think. It just might do the job. Anyway, it's probably worth $15 to give it a shot.
