New chip will work

Just tried the Winbond W29C020P-90 in my V4 and it works just like the 39SF020-120

I'll get the spec out to Chuck to update QNX flash. I plan on shipping W29C020P's as the new flashable chip when I run out of 39SF020's. Winbond is much better supported and the AWARD flasher knows it.

Badflash,
I have a couple of AMD 28f020-90's (12v) that I think I can hot swap flash on a pentium II LX board that has a 12v flash chip in it, Same style plcc socket.

My question is in your opinion do you think this AMD flash chip work on the V-5 i-Opener w/ the V-1 bio's?

Yes, I know for sure they work. Just about any 2M flash chip will work as long as the flash utility understands the chip and your board has 12V programming capability on Pin 1. Most MB's don't. It also usually doesn't work if you don't boot with the same device type chip before the hot swap.

Hot swapping PLCC's is risky. You can damage your motherboard or chip if your aim isn't true!

For the life of me....I cannot understand why anyone would risk a fried m-board, to save $20. This guy, Badflash, makes a bios chip that works perfectly in all versions of the I-Opener. Who else does it? Why waste hours trying a tricky, dangerous, many times unsucessful flash. Buy this man's chip...Don't be stupid.

Well, I risked my Abit to do the hotswap. I thank badflash for creating these bios for the ioperner community, but if you buy the chip I really don't consider it hacking the Iopener. Not to be flamed but a real techie will try to do it all themselves taking the risk and at to save money at all costs. I admit that I bought the cable tho cause I have no idea where to get the parts around here. By flashing the bios yourself, you learn how to do it and also save time on the shipping. You also realize how smart of an idea that badflash has. Think about how much money that guy makes. Each chip costs 3.00 retail so it must be at least 1.50 wholesale. Flashing companies then charge you from 10-20 bucks for a few minutes of work. Talk about smart! I on the other hand would rather save the money myself and learn.

Geez.....go to a doctor and see how much they charge for a few minutes work, and they can't even fix a headache. Badflash is doing a one-of-a-kind service for you....very cheap. I wanted my I-Opener to work....not to be a door-stop. The rest of the hack was hard enough....and I learned.

I too prefer to flash my own bio's! I get it done today! I get it done Cheap! and I learned how to get it done! I made my own cables and HDD Brackets and did not have to wait for someone else to do it for me! Learned a lot.
No problems at all! Take you time and use the right tools!

Hey newbie! Can you provide me with your source for $1.50 2 megabit bios chips? I'd be able to drop my price by A BUNCH if I could locate your source! I buy wholesale on the spot market and I'd buy a 10,000 chips in a heartbeat and give you a $1000 commision. Put up or- we'll you know...
