Are there any iOpener techs for hire? I want to use my iOpener, ship date 4/25/2000, (bought for and rejected by my 83 year-old mother) to replace my five-year old laptop, but don’t have the technical expertise to do it myself. Having watched the posts for “best buys”, I could assemble all the parts, handle the shipping, etc. Does it make sense to pin my hopes on a hacked iOpener as my only laptop and is there someone who does this commercially? Note: I use my laptop every day. I like the size of the iOpener (kitchen table!) and bank online, use AOL , WinFaxPro, Windows 98, MSOffice and that’s about it. Would be thrilled to get suggestions/ideas especially your thoughts as to what appropriate labor costs might be. Thanks.

Not the answer you're looking for, but:

Have you tried anything yet? I can't say that I'm the most technical person or to any extent a guru of electronics/linux/hacking/etc.., but it wasn't too hard..

Yah, a bit frustrating at times, but its now working fine with Linux & Win98, usb ethernet, etc.. Hopefully my second i/o will go as well..

Go poke at it ..
