Lasagna fan, X server config, OpenBSD

First, how necessary is it to cut the RF shield over the Lasagna socket 7 fan?

Next, are there any working X server configurations available? Is XF86 decent?

Lastly, when I boot OpenBSD from an IDE drive, I see the Netpliance graphic and then bsd's bootloader, but when the kernel loads the screen goes blank. i can login blindly and get a shell. when i `halt` i get the screen back, still with the iopener graphic in the background. Any idea what's going on here?
