K62+ and k6clk.exe
Power-now soft multiplier

There should be plenty of you out there now with the K62+ processors. The ones I have are AMD-K6-2/450ADK
According to AMD http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/mobile/opn.html this is the right part number for a mobile K6-2, but I have not got them to work with k6clk.exe. They boot fine at 2.0 or 2.2V (they are 2.1v processors)at 300Mhz but refuse to respond to the power-now multiplier commands. I have a sinking feeling that what was sold to me as a K62+ is in reality just a mobile K62. I think the correct part number should be AMD-K6-2+/450ACZ

Anyone getting the right part number? If so from where?

It's actually AMD-K6-2+/450ACZM. The K6-2/450ADK is a mobile cpu, my Compaq 1200XL laptop had one, but is not a + or power now compliant processor.

If it's a reputable supplier i.e. ingram and not an ebay purchase, and they more or less defrauded you by selling those chips as the plus version, why not see if you can return them without a fee?

I was defrauded, but I have my reasons for not sending them back.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-Details.asp?sku=CP2-K62-450P%20C
Clearly says "AMD K62 Plus 450Mhz CPU Only (L2 - 128K Cache)" but the part number is CP2-K62-450P C and what they deliver is the standard mobile processor and not the PowerNow compliant processor. BEWARE!

Anyone know if http://www.softwareandstuff.com/h.cpm.amdk62450.html is delivering the AMD-K6-2+/450ACZ?

I've ordered one, and it should be here soon (I hope!) It was late in the week two weeks ago when I ordered, but they are across the country from me, so... Still waiting... Maybe it'll be here soon, and I'll let ya know..

I got the two I ordered today. They are correct (k62+ 450AZCM). What a deal. Does anyone know of a good socket
7 m-board known to work with these chips? I see the makings of a good, fast computer here.

That's really strange. The six TigerDirect sent me as of this last thursday were all AMD-K6-2+/450ACZM.

SoftwareandStuff is supposed to be selling the AMD-K6-2+/450ACZM, at least according to those I've spoken to, but a phone call shouldn't hurt to confirm it.

Jack: The one that I ordered from tiger was a + I haven't had the opportunity to put it in anything yet; but I did check (Plenty of bad Tiger experiences...)

Got the k62+ 450 in from software and stuff. It's a k62+ 450AZCM here also.

Got the k62+ 450 in from software and stuff. It's a k62+ 450AZCM. I also currently have a K6-2 2/500AFX (2.2 core - 3.3 I/O). The max I could run the k6-2/500AFX with motherboard jumpers setting is 450Mhz (4.5 x 100) and the k62+ 450AZCM is at 300Mhz (4.5 x 66.6). Could anybody tell me why? Is this due to the bios limitation? Which is better to run with the IO?

I did notice that the k62+ 450AZCM runs about 10 deg F cooler.

I'll be darned. I'll have to try that tonight and see what gives. The fastest I was able to boot a K6III+ was 333, and I never tried to boot a K6(no +) any faster. To go over 333 on a (+) processor you use k6clk.exe and soft-shift the multiplier.

The + runs cooler as it draws a lot less current. You probably ran out of power on the K6(no +)

Looks like I fell in S**T and came up smelling like a rose! I took one of my K62P 450 mobile CPU's and used a dip switch on SW4 as well as SW2. Set SW2 for FSB=100 and SW4 =4.5.

She boots right up, not only that, the BIOS reports a K62 450 100X4.5, something my K6-III+ never did! Looks like a real winner here, no need to install K6clk.exe, no need to fiddle with SoftFSB! Thanks Enduser6!

As a side benny, I'm running the K62P at 2.2 volts and this runs Q16 a bit cooler. Neat!

And to think, I've got plenty of these for sale on my website. Here Tigerdirect thought they were unloading something on me! They actually ended up doing me a favor!

OK, I just got my chip for Software & Stuff, and it clearly states on it

AMD-K6-2+/450ACZ

AFAIK, there is no part number from AMD that is AMD-K6-2+/450ACZM.

So, are these two different items? If so, anyone have pics of each?

Well, now we know the boot limit on the K6+ processors is in the bios someplace. This could answer a lot of questions I had trying to use these on other systems that should work but don't. Bottom line, the K6+ processors won't boot on an IO above 300 Mhz and the BIOS does not properly report the CPU, speed or FSB. With a K6 it does and will boot up to at least 450Mhz. Sounds like the AMD-K6-2/450ADK is the best one to use as it needs no trickery to run and keeps Q16 a little cooler.

I'm running K6-2+450's at 2.0 volts. are you saying that running them at 2.2 volts will make Q16 cooler?

You should not run a K62+ at 2.2 volts. That is at the absolute maximum rating. The K62P is a 2.1V chip while the K62+ is a 2.0V chip. 2.2V for a K62P is fine. The higher the core voltage, the lower the voltage drop on Q16 and the cooler it runs to a point. There are trade-offs as higher voltage tends to make the processor draw more current. My experience with the K62P is that q16 is cooler at 2.2 than it is at 2.0.
