Alternative program to set AMD K6-2/III+ Multiplier
WinCPUID does it well

I just dropped an AMD K6-2+ into my V5, set the voltage, ordered the r302 and cooling resistors from BADFLASH, then came back to the boards to find that link again for K6CLK - no dice, the link was dead, so I did a web search through GOOGLE (also tried yahoo and MSN) - lots of messages about it, nothing found, same on AMD's website. I decided to at least give it a shot, see what H ODA's WCPUID reported the chip as, and it worked perfectly, identified it, gave me all the info I needed, then I noticed under the "tweaks" menu at the top, there was an option to set AMD K6-2/III PLUS multipliers - I tried it, it worked, then set it back and shut down so as not to cook my q16 (waiting fot the resistor to come in next week!) and decided I ought to share this new info with anyone who may be having the same problems I was in finding K6CLK. The URL for his site, btw, is:

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html

Internet explorer asks to install language components if you don't have them, but the site is in english, so no problems here. Well, guess that's about it! Happy i-hacking!

K6clk is still available: http://www.geocities.com/uart0/

Also a new bios may soon be available that supports K6+ CPUs and allows booting at full speed.

Hi,

Has anyone been able to increase the multiplier for a K6-2+ or K6-3+ in windows xp? k6clkwin does not work. Currently I am stuck at 300Mhz on my K6-3+.

Thanks
Rob

Contact Jack@badflash.com about the new Bios for the I-Opener that allows a K6-2+/K6-III+ to boot at full speed. No software required.

FYI,

Found out that k6speed works under win 2000 and win xp to multiply the K6-3 to 600Mhz.

I'll be testing the new image this week and will be updating my IOPENER image to this as soon as I'm sure it works as advertised, no offence Reverend, but I think you'll agree it is better to be safe than sorry.

You can never have too much beta testing. :)

Badflash,
What's the status on the new BIOS? My IO is running Win2k and no matter which CPU I use it still won't boot at anything over 300 Mhz.

Thanks

Just finished testing the V531B rev of the bios and it does boot at speeds up to 600Mhz on a K6III+. I did not run mine long at that speed, just enough to be sure it worked. I have no desire to slag another IOPENER.

Starting this week we will be offering this as our standard version. Anyone wanting this need only send for a reflash. The code is still substantially the V531 Wild_Pencil V5 patched bios, and he has not given me permission to distribute the code freely. No need to ask, wheedle, threaten, or attempt to embarrass me to get me to break my promise.

This should solve the non-dos OS problem and allow everyone with + processors like K62+ and K6III+ to boot to 400Mhz and above if they want. You need to solder the dip switch to the CPU mutliplier and the FSB to allows speed selection.

Thanks to Reverend_Jones for this latest patch!

Sooo... I'm a bit behind here (moved 300 some odd miles from home, the only comp I brought with me is the IO and well... no BB internet here and the stupid modem on it sounds like it's got laryngitis or something (maybe the 3 25mm 5V fans or the Golden Orb I have running in it?) but do I take it aright that I can just send the bios (it's a V5 one with the "press del for setup" and boot from CD etc but the thing I want most of all is the multi-speed booting. Are there any further hardware hacs to be done? (I have the Q16 cooling resistor in, the dip switch for FSB, and the R302 voltage resistor in it now, the HD and all running on an IMOD2 kit (was new at the time) haven't invested in the dual RS232 yet - I'm seriously thinking about it now though - what with everyone cracking this thing for TFT etc - I've got an old TFT touchscreen sitting in a box just begging to be installed in the Iopener - I'm going to toss this thing in my car and integrate it with a serial interface to car alarm thus giving PC (and PDA with wireless networking if I feel like it) access to the ignition and door locks, control over the stereo (via IR remote emulation) and a few extras, plus MP3s and on-the-road gaming for passengers, of course. - I'm planning to use a remote keyless entry system to power on the Iopener, so I can do that from the apartment, give it time to boot up and then start the car/unlock via a Jornada using 802.11... Anyway, the only things stopping me were the fact that it ONLY boots at 300 (as in multiplier programs freeze XP) and the no TFT or upped video RAM thing. If this is indeed something I can just send in the one I have and get updated, I'll DEFINITELY do so - is there any new cost involved?

To my knowledge, neither TFT nor increased Video RAM have been implemented in an IOpener BIOS. We're working on it, but haven't made the breakthrough yet.

Alright, no problem there - I'm just wondering if the updated BIOS will properly recognize my AMD K6-2+ 450 (I think it's an ACZ) instead of identifying it as "-MMX 60 MHZ" - also could this be why XP won't allow me to clock it up? (powernow) I don't mind a 300, as it's a damn sight better than the RISE266@200 but still, 450 would be absolutely awesome - use this baby as a portable DiVX station! (esp since I'm driving 700 miles this weekend, but there's no way I'd have it ready by then) - or is there something else I'm doing wrong? When I had Win98 installed it'd go up to 350 fine (100MHZ bus by the way) but no further - I upgraded to WinXP PRO and now it won't work at all - the system hangs (screen freezes, no response unless I power it off)- any ideas?

The updated bios will recognize your CPU as a K6-2/3+ at the correct speed. It will also allow you to boot a K6+ at up to 600Mhz. For anything over 450Mhz I would recommend a separate supply for Vcore.

How might I get the new BIOS? is it able to be released yet? will it be? is it something I could get directly from someone? Perhaps Wild_Pencil? I am working on a new modification of the IOP - I got a touchscreen out of an old compaq "tablet" style laptop and am planning to put that in there as the screen and set this thing up to be able to be used in the car. Booting at 450 instead of 300 would REALLY help though, as I still can't get any software out there to NOT crash my system instantly.

I just installed the latest BIOS and I can get my IO to boot up at 450 Mhz no problem. It boots good to 450 with both a K63+/450 or a K62/450. The issue comes in when Windows 2000 loads. The sucker blue screens, reboots, or hangs depending on the speed I use. It's happy as a clam at 300 Mhz but anything above that chokes. I've got all my proper mods in place so there should be no problems there and I don't have the VIA 4in1 drivers loaded (I think). Frustrating as heck. There must be a bad driver somewhere or mybe the VIA drivers are still lingering although I can't find them loaded anywhere. Perhaps I'll try K6speed and see if that helps. Anyone had similar issues?
