I got an AMD K6-II/475 ACK mobile processor on ebay, the seller claimed it came out of a Compaq 1200 laptop. I ran it for a awhile in my V4.5 IOP, set at 2.0v and with the latest bios from Badflash and HD cable, etc. It does have internal cache, but only 32k. So finally I got the K-6 kit from Badflash, got up the nerve to start soldering (after practicing for awhile on a junk board) and all the soldering seems to be okay -- the switches all seem to be working okay, the resistors on good, etc. And I've got the Lasagna IOP fan.
However, I can't get it to run at faster than 75mhz FBS and 3.5X on the cpu. That gives me 263mhz and seems stable, with around 39C/102F on the cpu and 50C/120F system temp. Or I can run it okay at 66mhz FSB and 4x on the cpu with about the same temps. I have tried every combo of FSB and cpu multiplier. I did have it running for awhile at 75X4, but it eventually (after a half hour or so) rebooted. I also tried 60x4.5 with like results -- ran for awhile, then rebooted.
Anything else, like 100mhz FSB either just gives me a black screen or won't even turn on. Or maybe boots showing the speed and mem check (had it as fast as 360mhz showing that way) but then crashes when the HD starts booting.
Badflash seemed to think that this isn't a mobile cpu, but it says 2.0v core and 3.3v I/O on the face. I'd like to get a K6-III+, but I'm reluctant to pay out the $50 or whatever to get one if there's something wrong with my IOP. | |
