Both laptop cdrom and hd installation. (modified 0 times)

Both laptop cdrom and hd installation.
This is what I'll be attempting tongight. I'm going to solder all of the wires myself. Which pin should I remove from the Sandisk to take it out of the picture (probably previously posted however I couldn't find it)?
My iopener is the kind with epoxy over the bios but no modification to the ide header. It has been said that an iopener with this mod will still work with a hard drive out of the box.

The BIOS will still recognize the drive, but it will refuse to boot. I tried all combinations that I could think of last night with my I-Opener and none of them worked. You may be setting yourself up for a lot of frustration.

You might have luck if you axe the Sandisk.
I tried a Teac 8x CD and my HD. Search the old posts. I couldn't get it to work no matter what I tried. I think that if the Sandisk is out of the picture you MAY have a chance.

some reports have indicated you need to set the cdrom as master for it to work. I have one on the way (23$!, read the cdrom info in the technical forum if you want one) and I will try and see what happens. Apparently, the cdrom does not identify itself quickly enuf so the sandisk takes over its spot in the line if you have it as slave. Some ideas: set the IDE boot delay higher so it has a chance to find it. Set the cdrom as master, and then in the BIOS set to boot off drive D (should be the HDD). try using just the cdrom with a bootable cd in it.

~pyr~: IDE boot delay. Could *that* be why I have trouble getting my IO to recognize two HDDs hooked up simultaneously to the bus, even though I can recognize an HDD/CDROM combo?

some older drives take a bit to be recognised by the BIOS, so the boot delay gives those drives a chance to be found before the BIOS declares them to not be there. If you set the boot delay in the BIOS it might help your devices be found
